NORTH COVENTRY >> A Healthy Eating workshop will be held at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 21, at West-Mont Christian Academy, 873 S. Hanover St., with Eric Myers and Yvonne Westlake, representatives from Wegman’s Food Markets. This event will include cooking demonstrations and highlight the importance of a healthy diet. POTTSTOWN >> A free informational session on adoption and child and youth foster care will be presented by Diakon Adoption and Foster Care at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 19, at Manatawny Manor, 30 Old Schuylkill Road. Diakon staff will explain foster parenting as well as the processes involved in adopting or fostering-to-adopt a child or youth. Call 610-682-1504 to register.
GILBERTSVILLE >> Garrett Coyne is a Gilbertsville resident and Boyertown Area School District student diagnosed with Batten Disease; a rare progressively degenerative disease that has no cure. On Sunday, Feb. 24, participants can join members of Team Garrett the Grand at the Upper Perkiomen YMCA on their indoor track at 1399 Quakertown Road, Pennsburg. The 5K walk will begin at 3 p.m.
If you can’t make the indoor event then you can participate any time time during the month of February. Walk wherever you like, choose your distance; 5K, 10K or a half marathon. Each participant will be rewarded with a medal and the satisfaction of knowing that their registration will be supporting NORD (National Organization for Rare Disorders). GILBERTSVILLE >> An AARP Smart Driver Refresher Course will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 19, at Chestnut Knoll At Home Service, 1041 E. Philadelphia Ave. The course is available to drivers aged 55 years and older.
Increase your safe driving skills and recognize your driving capabilities due to age-related physical changes. Learn techniques to defensive driving, and how to handle your vehicle during challenging driving conditions. Also, learn about the new technology features found in modernized vehicles.
The cost for AARP members, with proof of membership, is $15 per person, non-members is $20 per person. All participants must bring their AARP membership card (if applicable) and valid driver’s license.
