Norchester advances past West Lawn

Three runs in the fourth inning gave them the lead. Three more in the fifth helped them pull away.

Six combined runs in the fourth and fifth innings led the Norchester American Legion baseball team to a 6-3 victory over West Lawn in Friday’s Berks County League playoff game.

Sam Morris (2-for-3, double) and Ryan Sayers (2-for-2, RBI) had multihit days for the Bulldogs. Dan Stofko went the distance for Norchester on the mound, allowing three runs on 10 hits. He struck out six batters and walked none as he picked up the win. BOYERTOWN GRIZZLIES 5, NORCHESTER 3 >> Three pitchers combined to hurl the Grizzlies past the Big Dawgz in Saturday’s championsh­ip-qualifier round of the Twin-County League playoffs.

Zach Rothermel threw the first three frames for Boyertown, picking up the win after scattering three hits and two walks against four strikeouts. Ryan Young added two innings of threehit relief before Cole Kratz secured the game off two innings of three hit pitching.

Kratz gave Boyertown a 2-for-4, one RBI bat to help put it into Monday’s championsh­ip game. David Wagner had a huge two-run double in the first to drive in the Grizzlies’ first two runs, a lead they never relinquish­ed

Norchester and Phoenixvil­le will face off in another championsh­ip qualifier for the right to face Boyertown. BOYERTOWN BEAR CUBS 12, OLEY 1 >> Chance Babb and Jonathon Myers had three hits each and combined for five RBI Friday as the Bear Cubs rolled over Oley in the Berks County League’s playoff semifinal.

Colin Eisenhard and Luke Hoffman combined for four hits and four RBI for Boyertown (29-2-1). Evan Hetrick threw four innings for the win.
