Trails on Tap introduces Top Dog contest
Guests are invited Sunday to bring their leashed dogs where they can compete and win prizes.
ROYERSFORD >> Trails on Tap will include a new feature beginning this weekend.
On Sunday, July 28, from 3 p.m. until 4 p.m. at Royersford Riverfront Park, The Schuylkill River Greenways National Heritage Area, in partnership with FCM Hospitality and Mainstay Independent Brewing Company, will host a Top Dog Contest as part of their ongoing Trails on Tap series.
Guests are invited to bring their leashed dogs to the riverfront park where they can compete and win prizes in two different categories: Cutest Dog and Best Trick. Winners will be announced at 4 p.m.
All entries will be judged by State Representative Joe Ciresi, a member of Pennsylvania’s House of Representatives and 146th Legislative District in Montgomery County. All participating dog owners will receive a complimentary Trails Pale Ale, the official collaboration beer of Trails on Tap.
Trails on Tap is a sixweek mobile beer garden that began on June 26 at Pottstown Riverfront Park. It is part of a partnership between Schuylkill River Greenways NHA Executive Director Elaine Paul Schaefer, FCM Owner Avram Hornik and Mainstay Independent Head Brewer Brian O’Reilly.
The purpose of Trails on Tap is to shine a light on the valuable natural resources in Pennsylvania, specifically the Schuylkill River Trail and Schuylkill River. A portion of all proceeds from Trails on Tap will be reinvested toward protecting the river, expanding the Schuylkill River Trail and supporting the nonprofit Schuylkill River Greenways.
“Trails on Tap provides the opportunity for people to enjoy a casual social atmosphere while also experiencing the Schuylkill River Trail and River,” said Schaefer. “We hope residents and visitors alike will attend to celebrate this region as a destination for the craft beer and local food movement as well as to experience the area’s history and natural resources.”
Attendees are encouraged to arrive on bike or foot whenever possible. Limited parking will be available for those driving. Schuylkill River Greenways will offer free kayaking and bicycling opportunities every weekend of Trails on Tap from 2 to 5 p.m. on a first-come, firstserved basis. People will be able to borrow a bike from Riverbend Cycles or use a kayak through Take It Outdoors Adventures. Only individuals who haven’t consumed alcoholic beverages will be allowed to borrow the bikes and kayaks.
More information about the Trails on Tap locations, dates/times, recreational activities and parking can be found at TrailsOnTapPA. com. Trails on Tap will be cancelled in the case of severe inclement weather. Cancellation notices and parking detours will be posted on the Schuylkill River Greenways website schuylkillriver.org, as well as the Trails on Tap Facebook and Instagram (@ trailsontapPA).
