FORT WASHINGTON >> The National Association of Women Business Owners Philadelphia Center for Advancing Entrepreneurs, is looking to recognize female business owners in the Greater Philadelphia area. The Women Business Owner Awards will recognize those business owners that who combine an entrepreneurial spirit with a passion for giving back to the community, according to the organization.

Nominations and applications are currently being accepted for the inaugural 2019 awards to recognize women owners of small, medium and large companies in the Greater Philadelphia region. Nominations and applications are due by Aug. 16.

“We decided it was time for the Philadelphia region to honor those women who are exemplary leaders of both their own companies and their communities. We are excited to recognize these women who encourage local philanthropy, mentor up-and-coming leaders and set their companies on the path to tremendous growth,” Michele Schina, president of the Philadelphia Center for Advancing Entrepreneurs, said in a press release.

The awards will be presented in November, at the Philadelphia Center for Advancing Entrepreneurs’ annual gala. At that event, the organization has historically presented its Innovators Award to someone dedicated to advancing entrepreneurs in the area, Schina added. The recipients of the Women Business Owner Awards will be honored as part

of that event, she said.

Women business owners can be nominated or nominate themselves, according to the organization. Each nominee must complete an application. In addition to questions about the nominee/applicant and her company, the application also includes several brief essay questions dealing with the business owner’s vision, challenges, leadership and philanthropic endeavors.

Winners will be determined by a committee made up of the Center’s board members, sponsors and partners, in the three categories — based on employee size and the submission of their application. Judges will score the essay portions of the application, according to Center board member Fay Steiger.

According to the National Association of Women Business Owners Greater Philadelphia Center for Advancing Entrepreneurs website, nominees must meet the following criteria to be eligible for the award:

• Applicants must be a woman business owner (51% ownership or more), in business for at least three years;

• Companies must be headquartered in the Greater Philadelphia area (including Berks, Chester, Montgomery and Delaware counties);

• Companies must generate a minimum of $250,000 in annual revenue; and have a minimum of three full-time employees (or the equivalent in subcontractors).
