Police, EMS to compete in charity barbecue competitio­n

WEST CHESTER >> Police, fire department­s and EMS crews in Chester County will once again be participat­ing in The Crime Victims Center of Chester County’s charity barbecue event, set for Saturday, Sept. 21, from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the West Chester VFW.

Last year, the event, which is open to the public, was sold out in advance. Tickets are $20 each and includes all the BBQ you can eat, police cars, fire trucks , live music, Emerald society bagpipe band, raffles and a cash bar.

Children under age 10 are admitted for free. It is a family-friendly event.

Competing will be teams of local first responders, and there will be prizes awarded in the categories of best pulled pork, chicken, ribs, wings and specialty item.

Last year, 13 teams battled it out. ESU BBQ (West Chester Police Department) took home the top trophy for the day as the Grand Champion, and they will defend their title this year. Double D BBQ (West Goshen Police Department) came in second place overall as the Reserve Grand Champion.

Fee per team is $35. This includes a 20 X 20 space to cook at the event. West Goshen Police Department is registerin­g two teams in this year’s competitio­n.

The Crime Victims’ Center of Chester County Inc. is a nonprofit agency providing free, immediate, and confidenti­al crisis response and compassion­ate support to children and adults impacted by crime and violence. We provide assistance through counseling, advocacy, resources, and education. The Center fosters community awareness and understand­ing through its comprehens­ive outreach and prevention program.
