Local teacher presents at international conference
A local teacher recently presented at the International Society for Technology in Education conference.
More than 18,000 global educators and industry stakeholders attended this year’s International Society for Technology in Education conference at the Philadelphia Convention Center from June 23-26.
Attendees chose from 1,400 sessions that were selected from 6,000 proposals submitted by experts throughout the globe.
Achievement House Cyber Charter School, headquartered in Exton, sent six teachers to individually and collaboratively present at the conference to show educators from around the globe how they can integrate technology into their everyday teachings.
Those teachers were Gina Grandy of Lower Pottsgrove, Brittany Wentz of Morgantown, Katie Mastauskas of Silverdale, Tyler Hughes of New Florence, Jim Flick of Upper South Hampton, and Veronica Farr of Wynnewood.
The presentation included:
Video Production with Student Internships (Grandy). The presentation inspired teachers to consider video editing projects as an element of storytelling as a means for students to demonstrate course mastery. The key take away was that this practice is particularly helpful for English language learners as video creation serves as a powerful storytelling element without needing to be proficient in English. As an example, Grandy shared with the participants that after Hurricane Maria, Achievement House Cyber Charter School enrolled displaced students who relocated to Pennsylvania. Visual storytelling via video helped these students who were not proficient in English to demonstrate course mastery.
“We were thrilled to have six teachers share their expertise at the upcoming ISTE conference,” Achievement House Cyber Charter School CEO Don Asplen said. “We are also proud of the fact that each a teacher who submitted a proposal to the conference was approved, especially since less than one-third of the 6,000 proposals submitted for this conference were accepted.”
Achievement House Cyber Charter School has continued to prove that by embracing new technology, implementing future ready standards into curriculum, and creative thinking, its students are given opportunities to learn skills that allow them to stand out from their future workforce competitors.
