U.S. Rep. Chrissy Houlahan, 52, a first-term Democratic congresswoman from Chester County, appears likely to have a Republican challenger in November 2020.

John Emmons, 61, a chemical engineer and businessman from Chester County, recently announced his candidacy for Congress in the 6th Congressional District at the VFW Hall in Parkesburg, Chester County.

And two other Republicans have filed paperwork indicating interest in the race with the Federal Election of you know, I’m not afraid of a fight,” Emmons said in a news release. “We need strong, unwavering voices in Washington fighting for time-tested, common sense conservative solutions. I will be one of those voices.”

Emmons of New London Township, Chester County, said his platform will focus on health care reform, fixing the nation’s immigration system, and empowering businesses to create jobs.

“I am not a politician,” he said. “I am a husband and father. I have worked in the business world for four decades managing large organizations. I have been a grassroots conservative leader and an active member of the Republican Party in Chester County for more than a decade. I am a man of faith.”

According to his campaign website, Emmons started his working career out of college as a chemical engineer for Armstrong World Industries in Lancaster, moved up to plant manager, then spent 16 years as director of operations for Mannington Mills in Salem, N.J., before joining Interface Performance Materials/Lydall, Lancaster, in 2015 as director of operations, where he currently works.
