Flyers fall in OT to Islanders

Uniondale, New York » Mason Jobst scored with 53 seconds left in overtime to help the Islanders rally for a 3-2 victory over the Flyers Tuesday night.

Derick Brassard and Jordan Eberle also scored for the Islanders. Eberle’s goal with 1:34 left in regulation tied the score 2-2.

Jared Coreau made 10 saves in the second, third and overtime periods to get the win. Coreau replaced starter Thomas Greiss, who started the game and made 14saves. Michael Raffl and Chris Bigras scored for the Flyers. Carter Hart started the game for the Flyers, and made 14 saves before giving way to J.F. Berube midway through the game. Berube allowed three goals on 23 shots against his former team.

Tsai completes purchase of Nets » The Brooklyn Nets have a new owner and a new CEO.

Alibaba co-founder Joe Tsai completed his purchase of the team and Barclays Center on Wednesday, then announced that he had hired former Turner Sports President David Levy to oversee both.

Tsai’s purchase of the Nets was unanimousl­y approved Wednesday by the NBA’s board of governors. He spent nearly $3.5billion for the team and the arena, a record sale for a U.S. sports franchise.

He already had purchased 49% of the team from Russian billionair­e Mikhail Prokhorov in 2018, with the option to become controllin­g owner in 2021, but pushed up that timeline for full ownership of the team.

Police: Pirates’ Vazquez attempted to have sex with

minor » Pittsburgh Pirates closer Felipe Vázquez was being held Wednesday in a Pennsylvan­ia jail on multiple felony charges after allegedly telling investigat­ors he attempted to have sex with an underage girl during a meeting at her house in 2017.

Vázquez is charged with statutory sexual assault, unlawful contact with a minor and corruption of minors, all felonies, and a misdemeano­r count of indecent assault of a person under 16 years old.

The charges are related to Vázquez’s alleged encounters with a girl starting in 2017, when she was 13and living about an hour east of downtown Pittsburgh. Vázquez was expected to be arraigned Wednesday in Westmorela­nd County, though it was uncertain whether he would attend the hearing in person or do it via video from the Allegheny County Jail. Vázquez has been in the jail since surrenderi­ng to authoritie­s Tuesday on a felony warrant issued in Florida stemming from illicit electronic communicat­ion with the same girl.
