Questions raised about Boyertown drinking water

- — Clayton M. Leister Boyertown

The borough of Boyertown’s water system supplies water for the borough and much of the surrounding area.

For a period of about one month, the distributed water had a pronounce odor and offensive taste problem.

The official cause given by Boyertown officials was an inversion problem resulting from changes in temperature. Normally, such problems are solved by proper airing of the war prior to filtration.

The easterly most water tank upon Union Cemetery was due for rehabilitation several years ago; however, just this week numerous construction vehicles have been identified surrounding the tank.

Obviously, the tank must be drained to allow construction work inside the tank. Having endured about a month’s worth of bad odor and taste to the water one need not wonder regarding the disposal of the tank water now under construction.

It is disheartening to know that Boyertown borough officials allowed the consumption of what amounted to polluted gutter water.

What was the level of carcinogens contained in that water? How many carcinogens are contained in the repair applications?

Today’s water storage tanks are built of a composite material requiring much less maintenance while providing safer storage of water.

As a resident consumer of Boyertown’s water, I want to be assured of its highest quality and safety for human consumption. I want to know that we are not only meeting minimum requirements, but exceeding requirements for safe consumable water for most established requirements.
