Thomas P. Bentley Nature Preserve officially opens
French & Pickering Creeks Conservation Trust invited the community to join in celebration of the long-awaited official opening of the Thomas P. Bentley Nature Preserve on Saturday, Sept. 14
Ray Bentley cut the ribbon in honor of his father, Thomas, a long-time neighbor and supporter of French & Pickering, after whom the preserve was named.
The vast property spans both Warwick and East Nantmeal townships.
To celebrate this momentous day in the Trust’s history, President Penny Hunt and Executive Director Bill Gladden welcomed guests to join programs including guided nature hikes, tours of the historic Warwick Furnace, water quality education, and scavenger hunts.
French & Pickering Creeks Conservation Trust is thrilled with the community’s participation in Saturday’s festivities and is excited to host future events to help locals connect with the 108 acres of preserved open space.
French & Pickering Creeks Conservation Trust has been protecting and preserving land in Northern Chester County for over half a century. The group is a non-profit guided by a small board and staff who values open space, and community. Protecting the Thomas P. Bentley Nature Preserve and the adjacent properties has been the Trust’s largest undertaking in its history.
Gladden noted “We look forward to offering programs, managing the grounds and future restoration projects to maintain the high water quality, plants and animals that all contribute to this natural treasure.”
