OJR field hockey storms back to top Perk Valley, 3-2

OWEN J. ROBERTS 3, PERKIOMEN VALLEY 2 >> After falling behind 2-0, the Wildcats scored three unanswered goals in the Pioneer Athletic Conference Liberty win Wednesday.

Raina Smolij scored in the first half to bring OJR within one, 2-1, before Maddy Koury and Olivia Leclaire tallied goals in the second half. Jenna Kirby and Smolij had assists for OJR.

Cayden Jarvis made five saves, Kirby made two defensive saves and Rory Cahill made a defensive save for the Wildcats.

Katie Wuerstle scored off an assist from Kelly Baitinger and Danielle Hamm scored a penalty stroke to give PV its 2-0 lead. Ashley Derrick saved two shots. PHOENIXVIL­LE 10, UPPER MERION 0 >> Nicole Thompson hit the nets for a game-high four goals Wednesday, leading the Phantoms to a romp over the Vikings in their PAC Frontier Division game.

Thompson scored Phoenixvil­le’s first three goals before finishing up with the fourth in the second half. Aubrie Breisblatt and Cassidy Stevens added pairs of tallies while Katie Baker and Gianna Thaxton rounded out the scoring. Mailah Green was credited with a pair of assists for Phoenixvil­le, which split its scoring evenly between the two halves. SPRING-FORD 8, NORRISTOWN 0 >> Alexa Collins, Mackenna Maloney and Caroline Snyder scored pairs of goals to fuel the Rams’ potent offensive in Wednesday’s PAC Liberty Division victory over the Eagles.

Katelyn Crist and Peyton Nitto rounded out the scoring for Spring-Ford, which bolted to a seven-goal lead in the first half. For Norristown, Bajimah Curry had 17 saves in goal. UPPER PERKIOMEN 7, POPE JOHN PAUL II 0 >> Bella Carpenter hit the

nets for a whopping five goals, sparking the Indians’ PAC Frontier Division victory over the Golden Panthers Wednesday.

Ashlyn Gatto and Takoda Wells rounded out the UP scoring, AiYi Young was credited with three assists, and Kylene Gooch one, while Lynnsi Joyce and Carly Eidle (one save) shared time in goal.

Girls soccer

PERKIOMEN VALLEY 1, OWEN J. ROBERTS 1 >> After the Wildcats pulled even with the Vikings in the second half Wednesday, their PAC Liberty Division game went through regulation time and two overtimes with no change in the score.

Julia Quinn got PV on the board at the 5:02 mark in the first half, scoring off a cross from Mackenzie Patla from a corner shot. At the 22:09 mark of the second, Olivia Thompson got the equalizer off a cross shot. Riley Hill had a five-save day in goal for the Vikes. POTTSGROVE 5, POTTSTOWN 0>> With balanced scoring Wednesday, the Falcons rolled past the Trojans in their PAC Frontier Division game.

Becca Delp scored in the first half for Pottsgrove before Lana Sorg, Emily Vishio, Avery Makoid and Regina Greco padded the lead in the second. Lexi Zook was credited with assists on the goals by Vishio and Makoid, and Summer Walker needed to make just two saves to get the clean sheet. ACADEMY OF NOTRE DAME 4, HILL SCHOOL 0 >> Notre Dame quickly jumped on a Blues team that was showing the rust of a 12-day layoff, scoring four times in the opening 30 minutes en-route to the non-league victory Wednesday.

Arden Dougherty led the visitors with a pair of goals while Morgan O’Brien and Julia Rossi scored one goal apiece. Hill goalkeeper Marah Krick also turned aside four shots. PERKIOMEN SCHOOL 1, NEW FOUNDATION­S 0 >> A hardfought, physical battle in the rain ultimately saw Cheyenne McCloud hit the back of the net off an assist from Rihanna Moll in the first half of Thursday’s nonleague matchup.

In the second half, both teams continued to battle hard and had good saves from both keepers. Abbey Glavin recorded 12 saves in the shutout for Perkiomen.

Boys soccer

PERKIOMEN VALLEY 1, OWEN J. ROBERTS 0 >> Alfredo Grimaldi scored with 37 minutes left in the second half, giving the Vikings their margin of victory in Wednesday’s PAC Liberty Division game with the Wildcats.

Roberts’ loss came despite it holding a 12-6 edge in shots. Zeb Smith had three goalkeeper saves for Owen J. while Josh Moyer made six to get the clean sheet. SPRING-FORD 10, NORRISTOWN 0 >> Brandon Duke and Evan Hang netted hat tricks to head the Rams’ potent offensive in Wednesday’s PAC Liberty Division romp over the Eagles.

Marcel Francis chipped in with another pair of tallies for Spring-Ford while Colin Trainor and Brett Gulati rounded out the scoring. Trainor and Gulati were also credited with assists, as were Tommy Bodenschat­z, Liam Murray and Nick DiNenna. Tommy McPoyle (three) and James Needles had a combined five saves on the Rams’ clean sheet. BOYERTOWN 3, METHACTON 0>> Dimitrije Randjelovi­c, Dante Folk and Landon Wenger scored, while Tanner McCafferty made six saves in the Bears’ shutout PAC Liberty win Wednesday.

Nick Willson and Wenger tallied assists. WILSON 3, DANIEL BOONE 0 >> Brandon Moyer, Keegan Miller and Victor Vottero each scored a goal to lead the Bulldogs over the Blazers in Wednesday’s Berks League action.

Zack Fick made 14 stops in goal for Boone (2-4, 5-6).

Girls volleyball

POPE JOHN PAUL II 3, BOYERTOWN 0 >> Wednesday’s meeting of the PAC’s remaining unbeaten teams saw the Golden Panthers sweep the Bears by set scores of 25-18, 25-14 and 25-15.

Statistica­l stars for PJP were Hanna Tulli (12 kills, four blocks), Heather Lesinski (seven kills), Sarah Ward (four kills), Julia Durand (four kills), Chelsea Harvey (25 assists, eight digs, four aces), Tea Pasquale (10 digs, four aces) and Jessie Donovan (three aces, six digs). For Boyertown, Emma Ludwig had 19 assists and four digs, Julia Smith had 26 digs and Emily Wolfe chipped in with eight kills, six digs and two blocks. METHACTON 3, PHOENIXVIL­LE 0 >> The Warriors swept Wednesday’s PAC divisional crossover match with the Phantoms by set scores of 25-13, 25-13 and 25-18.

Statistica­l stars for Phoenixvil­le were Alexa Grammersto­rf (two kills, six digs), Avery Stackhouse (two aces, one kill, two digs), Sophia Spoto (three aces, nine assists, two digs, three kills), Hayden Perrone (one ace, one kill, 11 digs), Maria Coll (two aces, 12 digs) and LeiLu Campbell (11 digs). UPPER MERION 3, PERKIOMEN VALLEY 0 >> Upper Merion swept the Vikings in Wednesday’s PAC match by set scores of 25-16, 25-17 and 25-20.

Statistica­l stars for PV were Camila Leyes (36 digs, four assists, one ace, one kill), Ella Beckman (13 assists, 12 digs, four kills), Naomi Clauhs (nine assists, six digs, seven kills, three blocks) and Ashley Bolan (nine digs, three aces). AC. OF NEW CHURCH 3, PERKIOMEN SCHOOL 2 >> The Panthers extended ANC to the distance before coming up short of their non-league hosts Wednesday. Set scores were 25-23, 20-25, 20-25-20, 25-18 and 15-7.

Statistica­l stars for Perkiomen were Lualis Alvarado (46 kills) and Paola Mejias (40 assists).

Boys cross country

OWEN J. ROBERTS 24, SPRINGFORD 33 >> Thomas Damiani and Andrew McGonigle provided a 1-2 finish that led the Wildcats past the Rams in Wednesday’s PAC Liberty Division meet.

Damiani crossed the line in 16:09, one second better than McGonigle’s 16:10. Quinn Smith was SpringFord’s top finisher, third in 16:12.

Girls cross country

OWEN J. ROBERTS 17, SPRINGFORD 46 >> Claire Zubey led a 1-2-3 finish by the Wildcats as they outran the Rams in Wednesday’s PAC Liberty Division meet.

Zubey ran a 19:04 to finish well ahead of the pack, Hannah Kopec (19:48) and Cali VanDruff (20;08) a respective second and third for Owen J. Nora Albertson was Spring-Ford’s top runner, fourth in 20;12.

Girls tennis

BLAIR AC. 5, HILL SCHOOL 2>> Taking five of six singles contests Wednesday, Blair Academy handled the Blues in their Mid-Atlantic Prep League match.

Elena Zhang was a winner at second singles for the Hill, which took two of three doubles to get its other point. Zhang teamed with Tyne Miller for a win at first doubles, and Melissa Xu and Mofe Akinyanmi got another victory at second doubles.

Boys golf

POTTSGROVE 224, COATESVILL­E 236 >> J.R. McMenamin claimed low-man honors for the Falcons Wednesday as they outlasted the Red Raiders in a non-league match at Coatesvill­e Country Club.

McMenamin carded a 42 ahead of teammates Mike Krueger and Trey Browne, who both checked in with 43s. Brady Frankland was the leader for Coatesvill­e with a 46.

Boys water polo

HILL SCHOOL 13, MALVERN PREP 8 >> Jordan Duchez hit the nets for seven goals, heading the Blues’ nonleague win over the Friars Wednesday.

Duchez also had three assists, four steals and five drawn ejections. Zack Kaplan had two goals along with three steals and a trio of drawn ejections while Aidan Dunn (four assists, five steals), Tristan Hertzog (three assists), Jordan Corpuz and Huff Benedict completed the Hill scoring.
