Spring-Ford completes unbeaten PAC run

The Spring-Ford girls tennis team completed an unbeaten run through the Pioneer Athletic Conference’s regular season Tuesday, a big showing in singles underscori­ng their 6-1 victory over the Wildcats.

Spring-Ford went 11-0 in a 2019 season during which it placed three singles players 1-2-3 in the PAC’s Singles Tournament. It dropped just three games in singles Tuesday, getting a decisive run from Cady Krause, Isabel Mejia and Riley Burke.

In doubles play, the Rams were highlighte­d by a 6-0, 6-0 verdict by their fourth team of Alyssa Sharma and Laura Tang. OJR’s lone point came at first doubles, where Sierra Everett and Jordan Sylvia rebounded from an opening-set loss to score a 2-6, 6-2, 6-2 victory. QUAKERTOWN 4, POTTSGROVE 3 >> The Falcons swept the singles matches but couldn’t come away with the doubles point needed in the non-league loss.

Mya Krueger, Grace Myers and Jaelyn Kennedy picked up singles wins for Pottsgrove.

Boys golf

SPRING-FORD 198, OWEN J. ROBERTS 211 >> Joey Chillano and Noah Kim shared lowman honors for the Rams, who outshot the Wildcats in their PAC Final Four Playoff semifinal Tuesday at Turtle Creek Golf Club.

Chillano and Kim both shot two-over-par 38s on the par-36 Turtle Creek layout to qualify for the league’s team championsh­ip match. Conrad Benford was the leader for Owen J. with a 39, followed by teammate Stefania Fedum and SpringFord’s Luke Watson at 40. METHACTON 185, PERKIOMEN VALLEY 195 >> John Rieger headed the Warriors’ showing as they topped the Vikings in Tuesday’s PAC Final Four Playoff semifinal match.

Rieger’s nine-hole round of 35 put him one stroke ahead of the 36s of teammate Nick Martin and PV’s Tyler Franks. Methacton checked in with three of the next four cards, getting a 37 from Andrew Lasecki, a 38 from Sean Cooper and a 39 from Jeff Cooper. PERKIOMEN SCHOOL 227, COLLEGIUM 268 >> The Panthers outshot Collegium Charter in Tuesday’s TriCounty League match at Butter Valley Golf Club.

Low scores for Perkiomen were Pierce Laessig (42), Alexa Eisenbies (43), Ben Griffaton (45), Garrett Knowles (47) and Zach Glavin (50).

Field Hockey

POPE JOHN PAUL II 1, POTTSGROVE 0 >> Brooklyn Rodgers’ goal broke a scoreless draw with under 10 minutes left in the Golden Panthers’ PAC Frontier win on Monday.

Maeve Riley assisted on the game-winner. Golden Panthers goalkeeper Chicky Escudero made eight saves to record the shutout. Pottsgrove’s Mackenzie Johnson saved four shots. SPRING-FORD 2, METHACTON 1 >> The Rams finally found themselves on the right side of a close PAC Liberty contest Monday.

Alyssa Mozi scored on an assist by Kate Crist in the first half, and Crist put away a penalty stroke in the second half to finish off the Spring-Ford victory. Ashley Della Guardia made 10 saves.

Grace Shields scored for Methacton, and Rachel Alderfer had a defensive save for the Warriors.

Boys Soccer

PERKIOMEN VALLEY 5, NORRISTOWN 1 >> The Eagles took the early lead when Diego Guzman dribbled past two defenders, but PV responded with three goals before the half including a beautifull­y struck ball by Mark Pirrone to take the lead on the way to a PAC Liberty win Tuesday.

Matt Holmes (assisted by Alfredo Grimaldi), Mark Pirrone, Grimaldi (assisted by Jack Hodson), Brayden Basile (assisted by Nick Romas) and Steven Warren scored for the Vikings. READING HIGH 2, DANIEL BOONE 1 >> Kevin Guzman and Esteban Mora each scored to lead the Red Knights past the Blazers in Monday’s Berks League pairing.

Caleb Rahn scored off an assist by Brady Ferguson for Daniel Boone (3-5, 6-7), which got 11-save goaltendin­g from Danny Krystopa.

Girls Soccer

PERKIOMEN 6, FOUNDATION­S COLLEGIATE 1 >> Cheyenne McCloud and Cece Vassallo both netted a pair of goals in the Panthers’ win Tuesday.

Rianne Moll and Sasha Vassallo had Perkiomen’s other scores, while Abbey Glavin made two saves in goals.

Boys cross country

BLAZERS GO 1-2 >> Though Alex Pingitore was the race’s overall champion, Daniel Boone managed to outrun just one of three Berks teams it faced Tuesday. The Blazers topped Tulpehocke­n (20-35) but were edged by Gov. Mifflin (28-31) and Exeter (2040).

Pingitore crossed the finish line in 18:37, 20 seconds ahead of Jason Fisher (18:57) leading the Eagles’ 2-3-4-5 run. Cory Miller had another Top 10 run for Boone, placing eighth in 19:23.

Girls cross country

BLAZERS GO 1-2 >> Daniel Boone managed just one victory with the three Berks teams it ran Tuesday. The Blazers dominated Tulpehocke­n (15-50) but were outrun in turn by Gov. Mifflin (21-37) and Exeter (20-38).

Hannah Santos was Boone’s top finishers, placing fourth in 22:14. Ashley Benoit followed in ninth place (22:46).

Girls Volleyball

DANIEL BOONE 3, READING 0 >> The Blazer dominateds early in Monday’s Berks League win on the way to a 25-3, 25-9 and 25-19 sweep.

For Boone, Aubrey Hunt had five kills and six digs, JJ Valentin tallied 10 assists, six digs and nine aces, and Val Klick had seven kills and two aces. METHACTON 3, PERKIOMEN VALLEY 2 >> The Warriors outlasted the Vikings in a tight fifth set for the PAC Liberty win Monday (25-23, 14-25, 25-23, 18-25, 15-12).

Madi Roth led Methacton with 40 assists to go along with 12 digs. Elly Brunt had 35 digs, two aces and an assist. Melinda Eglinton (14 kills, 1 assist, 4 digs, 3 blocks) and Sydney Zerbe (11 kills, 5 aces, 17 digs) were the Warriors’ kills leaders. Other stat stars for Methacton were Emma Ginther (7 kills, 2 aces, 16 digs), Nya Cherry (15 digs, 1 ast) and Alli Hazlett (7 kills, 4 digs, 4 blocks).

For PV, stat leaders were Jessica Lofton (5 blocks, 1 assist), Ella Beckman (5 aces, 7 kills, 13 assists, 4 digs), Isabel Clauhs (14 kills, 4 blocks, 7 digs, 1 ace), Cam Leyes (16 digs, 2 aces) and Naomi Clauhs (17 assists, 7 kills, 1 block, 15 digs).
