Norristown’s Ryan leads at District 1 tournament

DISTRICT 1-3A TOURNAMENT » Norristown’s Josh Ryan led the pack on the first day of Monday’s District 1 Class 3A individual tournament at Turtle Creek Golf Course.

Ryan, who finished with a one-under 71, is two strokes in front of Unionville’s Jack Cooley and Harriton’s David Fitzgerald.

Five other PAC competitor­s will join Ryan on the second day of the tournament at Turtle Creek. Kyle Resuta (Phoenixvil­le), Jeff Cooper (Methacton), John Engle (Boyertown), Conrad Benford (OJR) and Luke Watson (Spring-Ford) finished among the Top 28 scorers to advance to the next day. Nick Martin (Methacton) missed the cut line of 78 by one stroke, finishing seven-over with a 79.

Mitch Thompson (Methacton), Christian Brofft (OJR), Nate Pierce (Spring-Ford), Ryan Horenci (PV), Bryan McGuire (Phoenixvil­le), Mike Romano (Norristown), Brandon Staniszews­ki (Boyertown), Nick Parr (OJR), Steven Rinda (Pottsgrove), Ryan Jasudowich (Phoenixvil­le) and Alex Johns ( Spring-Ford) also competed Monday. PERKIOMEN SCHOOL 206, WOODLYNDE 243 » Ben Griffaton and Alexa Eisenbeis each had 49 followed by Garrett Knowles (50) and Pierce Leassig (58) to lead Perkiomen to Monday’s victory.

fania Fedun was the lone PAC survivor on the first day of districts Monday at Raven’s Claw Golf Course.

Fedun’s three-over 74 placed her above the cut and in a tie for fifth place, nine strokes behind Lower Merion Freshman Sydney Yermish, who shot a six-under 65. The tournament will continue Tuesday at Turtle Creek Golf Course.

Methacton’s Riley Thomas was the area’s next top finisher with an 89, 10 shots off the cut. Spring-Ford’s Nicole Yun, the PAC individual champion, and Phoenixvil­le’s Chelsea Frampton finished one stroke behind Thomas at 90.

Phoenixvil­le’s Morgan Frampton, Oleysa Sitowski and Bella Bland, Upper Merion’s Amanda Schubel, Audrey Schubel and Anika Villvallam, Methacton’s Sarah Lawrie, Boyertown’s Kylie Wood, and SpringFord’s Cierra Griffith, Alexa McPike and Morgan Kunze also participat­ed Monday.

KENNETT 3, SPRING-FORD 2» Kennett defeated PAC champion Spring-Ford in the opening round of the District 1 Team Tournament on the strength of its top singles players. Gina Lusvardi and Mikaru Kumata scored one-sided victories at Nos. 1 and 2 singles, respective­ly, Lusvardi topping Cady Krause 6-0, 6-1 and Kumata downing Isabel Mejia, 6-2, 6-2.

Spring-Ford got wins at No. 3 singles from Riley Burke and No. 1 doubles team Casey Goldstein and Lucy Olsen, both in three setters. But Anna Jiang and Julia Nowak’s No. 2 doubles win over Breanna Weigelt and Lana Hang, 7-6 (0), 6-3, tipped the scale in Kennett’s favor.

Field hockey

PERKIOMEN VALLEY 10, BOYERTOWN 0 » With a first -half hat trick from Danielle Hamm and a second-half hat trick from Katie Wuerstle, the Vikings cruised to a PAC Liberty win Monday.

PV, which has qualified for next week’s PAC playoffs while improving to 13-3 (7-2, 10-2), scored five goals in each half. Other scorers for the Vikings were Cristina Dougherty, Kaci Shelton, Kelly Baitinger and Saige Shine.

Boyertown goalie Laura Wigand made 15 saves, and Hailey Levengood saved two shots.

Girls volleyball

BOYERTOWN 3, PHOENIXVIL­LE 0 » The Bears went on road and swept the Phantoms by scores of 25-10, 2518, and 25-15 in Monday’s Pioneer Athletic Conference crossover match.

Boyertown (11-1 PAC, 162) was led by Emma Ludwig (16 assists, 6 kills, 4 digs), Jess Ahart (4 kills, 5 digs), Emily Wolfe (11 kills, 5 digs, 2 blocks), Julia Smith (20 digs) and Adrianna Derstine (7 kills, 2 blocks).

For Phoenixvil­le Alexa Grammersto­rf (3 kills, dig), Avery Stackhouse (ace, 2 kills, dig), Sophia Spoto (2 aces, 10 assists), Riley Daher (3 kills) and Leilu Campbell (ace, 5 digs) were the statistica­l leaders.

HAVERFORD SCHOOL 3, HILL SCHOOL 1 » Haverford’s Asher Laackmann scored early and late as the Fords knocked off host Hill Monday afternoon. Hill’s Zach Barrett evened the game on a header in the 36th minute. But Zach Seaman gave Haverford the lead for good in the 46th minute.

BOYERTOWN 4, PERKIOMEN VALLEY 1 » Camilla Kuever carried the scoring load for the Bears Monday in a PAC Liberty win over the Vikings.

Kuever struck for all four Boyertown goals, getting a couple assists from Samantha Devlin and another from Mikayla Moyer.

PV’s goal came on a penalty kick from Maddie Zielke. Riley Hill had eight saves in goal. POPE JOHN PAUL II 8, POTTSTOWN 4 » Lainey Owens and Julia Hull each netted a pair of goals in the Golden Panthers’ PAC Frontier win Monday.

Sophia Hinke, Lauryn Rezza (two assists), Amaya Ransom and Audrey Moroz also scored. Stacy Kormos made 10 saves in goal. PERKIOMEN SCHOOL 1, GEORGE SCHOOL 0 » Cece Vassallo’s top shelf shot in the second half was enough for the Panthers to win over George School Monday. Abbey Glavin earned the shutout with 10-save goalkeepin­g.
