Boyertown boys clinch PAC Liberty title

BOYERTOWN 2, NORRISTOWN 0 >> Goals by Landon Wenger and Nick Willson fueled the Bears’ shutout of the Eagles Thursday, a win that clinched the PAC Liberty Division title for Boyertown (14-1-2).

Jacob Gross was credited with an assist for Boyertown, which will be the No. 1 seed for next Tuesday’s PAC semifinals, to be held at Owen J. Roberts. SPRING-FORD 3, PERKIOMEN VALLEY1>> With Brett Gulati figuring on two of their goals Thursday, the Rams handled the Vikings in their PAC Liberty Division game.

Gulati had a goal and assist for Spring-Ford, whose other tallies came from Colin Trainor and Marcel Francis. Tommy McPoyle had four goalkeeper saves, his effort marred by Alfredo Grimaldi’s goal for PV. UPPER MERION 5, POPE JOHN PAUL II1>> After the Golden Panthers pulled even with them Thursday, the Vikings went on a scoring tear in the final eight minutes to pull away in this PAC Frontier Division matchup.

Joey Mazzio scored for PJP at the 14:26 mark of the second half, equalling UM’s first-half tally. Dylan Russ gave the Panthers 10-save goaltendin­g.

UPPER PERKIOMEN 8, POTTSTOWN 0 >> Mason Powers’ two-goal game headed the Indians Thursday as they romped over the Trojans in PAC Frontier Division play.

Bryce Lesko (one assist), Enoc Padilla, Dean Miller, Kyle Shemeley, Jimmy Friedman and Patrick Hale completed the UP scoring. Assists were also credited to Cole Kendra, Febo Kilada, Austin Dunar, Joe McMichael and Jack Cupitt.

BOYERTOWN 4, DOWNINGTOW­N WEST 2 >> Samantha Devlin’s two goals carried the Bears in their non-league win over Downingtow­n West on Friday.

Karli Sheahan and Kayley Mattis also tallied goals for Boyertown. Samantha Goffice had two assists for the Bears, and Camilla Kuever and Mikayla Moyer both added one as well. Goalkeeper Madison Gallagher made five saves. UPPER PERKIOMEN 8, POTTSTOWN 2 >> The Indians capped their regular season Thursday with a PAC Frontier Division victory over the Trojans.

Down 1-0 on Aniya Hoskins’ early goal, UP rallied for five first-half goals, including a natural hat trick by Emily Schaut and a pair of goals from Avery Diehl. In the second half, Sarah Edwards also tallied a brace, with Bryanna Marinari chipping in a single goal. Kaleigh Martin added Pottstown’s second goal.

Giana Deskevich contribute­d seven saves in her first varsity start for the Tribe, which tied a school record for most regularsea­son wins for a girls team (13). Emme Wolfel had seven saves, and Michelle Castillo two, for the Trojans. POTTSGROVE 1, PHOENIXVIL­LE 0 >> Skylar Glass scored her 16th goal of the season Thursday, lifting the Falcons over the Phantoms in PAC Frontier Division action.

Glass was assisted by Hailey Strain. The goal proved sufficient for the victory with Summer Walker providing three-save shutout goaltendin­g. Phoenixvil­le’s Ella Stout stopped five shots.

Field hockey

UPPER PERKIOMEN 3, PHOENIXVIL­LE 1 >> Upper Perkiomen clinched the PAC Frontier Division title on the back of goals from Ashlynn Gatto, Jenna Fiorito and AiYi Young, who also had two assists, Friday.

Upper Perk (14-4) will be the No. 2 seed and host next Tuesday’s PAC semifinals. Goalie Lynnsi Joyce had six saves while Bella Carpenter had a defensive save.

Katie Baker scored for Phoenixvil­le (8-4 PAC, 10-6 overall), which can still qualify for the PAC playoffs with a win Monday over Pope John Paul II. PHOENIXVIL­LE 4, POTTSGROVE 1 >> Cassidy Stevens scored three goals for the Phantoms Thursday, heading their PAC Frontier Division win over the Falcons.

Nicole Thompson added an insurance goal for Phoenixvil­le, which got two assists from Aubrie Breisblatt and one from Stevens. Katie Bean scored for the Falcons early in the second half, with an assist from Riley Simon, as Mackenzie Johnson gave the visitors 15-save goaltendin­g. OWEN J. ROBERTS 1, METHACTON 0 >> Jenna Kirby scored in overtime Thursday to give the Wildcats the PAC Liberty Division championsh­ip and No. 1 seed in next week’s PAC playoffs.

Kirby scored at the 7:18 mark in OT for Owen J., nullifying Methacton’s edge in corners (9-7). Kelly O’Donnell (four saves) and Sarah Woolston (two) split goalie duties for the Warriors. Cayden Jarvis made four saves and Rory Cahill had a defensive save for OJR. BOYERTOWN 6, NORRISTOWN 0 >> Lauren Eves’ two-goal showing helped the Bears roll over the Eagles in Thursday’s PAC Liberty Division game.

Katelyn Dulin, Alyx Morgan, Kiersten Prosock and Emily Baro also scored for Boyertown, which had Laura Wigand and Hailey Levengood share goalie duties. PERKIOMEN VALLEY 2, SPRING-FORD 1 >> Danielle Hamm scored two goals — the second in overtime — to key the Vikings’ PAC Liberty Division win over the Rams Thursday.

Hamm’s first goal was assisted by Gabrielle Muschert, the second by Kelly Baitinger. Though outshot 24-5 and out-cornered 17-8, Spring-Ford was able to force the OT scenario with Alyssa Mozi’s goal in the second half, set up by Katelyn Crist. Ashley Della Guardia gave the Rams 10-save goaltendin­g.

Girls Tennis

PAC DOUBLES TOURNAMENT >> Seeding held true to form on Day 1 of the PAC Doubles tournament with the top three seeds all advancing to Saturday’s semifinals at Perkiomen Valley.

Spring-Ford’s Isabel Mejia and Riley Burke, Perkiomen Valley’s Nadja Townsend and Kay Mahon, and Methacton’s Karen Li and Amanda Wang all used straight-set quarterfin­al wins to reach the final four.

They will be joined by Methacton’s No. 2 pair, Hannah Kim and Katie Chan, who knocked off the No. 5 and No. 4 seeds en route to the semifinals.

The tournament continues 9 a.m. Saturday at Perkiomen Valley. GERMANTOWN ACADEMY 6, HILL SCHOOL 0 >> The Patriots won five matches in two sets Thursday on the way to their non-league sweep of the Blues.

The Hill’s best individual showing came at first doubles, where Ava Carosella and Zoya Holin extended GA to a 6-1, 6-7 (10-7) verdict.

Boys cross country

PHOENIXVIL­LE 16, POTTSGROVE 46 >> Gabe Puleo headed the Phantoms’ 1-23-4 finish in Thursday’s PAC Frontier Division meet with the Falcons.

Puleo ran his home course in 17:40, followed by teammates Bryan Kerchner (17:55), Doug Villegas-Rivas (18:21) and Yash Aznihota (18:22). Brandon Henriksen was Pottsgrove’s top runner, placing fifth in 18:57.

Girls cross country

PHOENIXVIL­LE 26, POTTSGROVE 33 >> While Naomi Hillen claimed top race honors for the Falcons Thursday, the Phantoms responded in their PAC Frontier Division meet by claiming seven of the next nine spots.

Hillen outran the field with a 21;20 clocking. Phoenixvil­le got a 2-3 showing from Kerry Mochnally (21:54) and Alyssa Cunningham ahead of Pottsgrove’s Calista Faust (23:38) and Noelle Barone (23:39).

Girls volleyball

BOYERTOWN 3, METHACTON 0 >> The Bears finished out the league portion of their schedule Thursday with a sweep of the visiting Warriors. Set scores were 25-18, 25-14 and 25-12.

Having big nights for Boyertown were Emma Ludwig (14 assists, seven digs, four kills, three aces, three blocks), Emily Wolfe( (12 kills, four digs, three aces), Julia Smith (20 digs), Adrianna Derstine (five kills, two digs) and Jess Ahart (seven kills, three digs). POPE JOHN PAUL II 3, UPPER MERION 0 >> The Golden Panthers swept Thursday’s PAC match with the Vikings by set scores of 27-25, 26-24 and 25-14.

Statistica­l stars for PJP were Sarah Ward (11 kills), Hanna Tulli (18 kills), Haley Spotts (10 kills, 12 digs), Julia Durand (eight kills), Chelsea Harvey (44 assists, seven kills, 11 digs) and Téa Pasquale (28 digs). WILSON 3, DANIEL BOONE 0 >> The Bulldogs swept Thursday’s Berks League match with the Blazers by set scores of 25-18, 25-8 and 25-18.

Statistica­l stars for Boone were Aubrey Hunt (eight kills, two blocks, two aces) and Ashley Kriebel (two kills, one block, 11 digs). PHOENIXVIL­LE 3, MARPLE NEWTOWN 2 >> The Phantoms were extended to the maximum Thursday before edging the Tigers in nonleague action. Set scores were 25-22, 22-25, 25-19, 2325 and 15-11.
