Local trio Guinan, Lerro, McErlean selected to D3 All-Region teams
Three area women were named to National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division III All-Region first teams on Dec. 3. Senior Kate McErlean of Johns Hopkins and sophomore Bridget Guinan of Rowan were named to the All-South Atlantic team and junior Jackie Lerro of Lynchburg (Va.) was selected to the All-South squad.
McErlean, a Phoenixville Area graduate, was selected for the second straight year. She helped the Blue Jays post a 19-3 record by scoring 15 goals with five assists for 35 points and four game-winners. Last month, she was selected to the Centennial Conference first team. Hopkins saw its season end with a 3-1 loss to Franklin & Marshall in the Division III NCAA Tournament semifinals.
“Katie is an incredible athlete and her leadership was integral to us making it back to the Final Four,” coach Janes Wells said. “She played six different positions, doing whatever was needed to make sure our team was successful.”
Guinan, an Owen J. Roberts graduate, led the Profs to a 15-5 record. She finished with 42 points on 17 goals and eight assists. She had three game winners. Guinan was named to the New Jersey Athletic Conference first team. Rowan’s season ended with a 1-0 loss to Lerro’s Lynchburg squad in the Division III second round.
“Bridget has been an impact player since she stepped onto the field as a freshman and it’s great to see her excelling on the national level,” coach Michelle Andre said.
