Methacton’s McNair wins 100th at Lutz Duals

LUTZ DUALS >> Kibwe McNair joined the 100-win fraternity Saturday while Methacton was participat­ing in duals competitio­n hosted by Upper Merion.

McNair, coming into the season with 99 victories for his scholastic career, got the milestone win by pinning Northeast High’s Seth Ramos in their 160-pound bout. The Warrior senior, a two-time PIAA Class AAA tournament qualifier, maintained his roll with a pin at 160 against Pottsgrove (48-23 win) and Upper Perkiomen (45-31 loss).

McNair became the program’s 13th wrestler to reach triple digits in victories, and the first since Bryce Reddington in 2016.

Roman Moser also had a three-win day for Methacton, scoring three pins at 170 and 182.

Upper Perk’s victory over the Warriors in the “A” Division Finals was secured in large part by pins from Matt Martin (120), Mike Milkowich (132), Gavin Marks (138), Soren Svanson (170), Austin DiDomenico (195) and Damon Franco (220). Keaton Durning added a decision at 145 alongside a pair of forfeits.

Though Pottsgrove went 0-3 as a team, seniors Zach Van Horn, Josh Cerrito and junior Manny Allen went 3-0. CUMBERLAND VALLEY KICKOFF >> Spring-Ford junior Joey Milano dominated the 182-pound bracket at the 22-team Cumberland Valley tournament, leading the Rams to sixth place as a team on Saturday.

Milano (4-0) pinned or tech-falled his way to the final, where he topped Nazareth’s Drew Clearie, 8-3, for the title.

Spring-Ford’s other top finishers were senior Quinn Tobin (4-1), who placed third at 132, and freshman Quinn Smith (4-2), fifth at 120. GERMANTOWN TOURNAMENT >> Jacob Craig won the 120-pound bracket to lead Hill School to second place at Germantown. Craig pinned his way to the title and a 4-0 day.

Derek Schmaeling (195) and Kade Davidheise­r (106) placed third for Hill while Ben Beckett (145) and Luke Cawley (285) took fourth. SAM LOVELLO CLASSIC >> At Brandywine Heights, Pope John Paul II’s Matt Vulakh placed second at 132 pounds to lead the Golden Panthers. Vulakh topped Brandywine’s Nick Geary 7-1 in the semifinals, but fell to Central York’s Mason Myers, 2-0, in the championsh­ip.

PJP also got a fifth place from Cole Miller at 120. KNIGHT DUALS >> At Academy Park, Pottstown went 1-2 Saturday, falling to Bensalem 45-21 and Norristown 39-37 before topping South Philadelph­ia 60-16.

Pottstown wrestlers with winning records on the day were senior Zack Griffin (30), freshman Jared Hewitt (3-0), senior Bobby Richards (2-0), senior Demond

Thompson (2-1), junior Bobby Mitchell (2-1), freshman Joel Mundo (2-1) and sophomore Jonah Grice (21). CEDAR CREST DUALS >> Phoenixvil­le went 2-1 and placed third as a team at the Cedar Crest Duals Saturday.

Phoenixvil­le defeated Cedar Crest 54-21, fell to Abington 41-33 in the semifinals and topped La Salle 36-34 for third place.

Phantoms leaders were Dave Polanki (3-0 at 182/196,) Owen Koch (3-0 at 160/170), Antonio Valenteen (3-0 at 120), Anthony Stevenson (2-1 at 170/182), Angelo Franzone (2-0 at 160) and Mason Koch (3-0).

Boys basketball

POPE JOHN PAUL II 59, CONESTOGA 53 >> Drew McKeon hit for a game-high 25 points to lead the Golden Panthers past the Pioneers in Saturday’s consolatio­n game from the Unionville TipOff Tournament.

McKeon had 13 of his points in the first quarter, and 15 off shots from 3-point range. Jaden Workman chipped in with another 11, six of them from the free-throw line, in helping PJP score 43 points in the opening frame.

Boys basketball

CENTRAL BUCKS SOUTH 61, PERKIOMEN VALLEY 47 >> The Vikings dropped to 0-2 with a loss to CB South in the PAC/SOL Challenge Saturday.

Tyler Lapetina had a team-high 16 for PV. Aidan Quinn added 11.

Michael Farley led CB South, which took control in the second quarter, with 16 points. UPPER MERION 66, UPPER PERKIOMEN 56 >> In a nonleague meeting at the Upper Moreland tournament, Lukas Kim scored 10 of his game-high 19 points in the first quarter to lift the Vikings.

Ty Jones dropped 16 and Nick Shepperd added 15 for UM. Sean Boyle scored 17 to lead Upper Perk. HILL SCHOOL 72, PENN CHARTER 63 >> Caleb Dorsey scored 12 of his 18 points in the second half as Hill took control after the break in a non-league Saturday.

Gabe Dorsey scored 13, Zach Lezanic 11 and Gabriel Moss 10 for balanced Hill. PERKIOMEN SCHOOL 68, SPRINGSIDE CHESTNUT HILL ACADEMY 40 >> Leading 2927 at halftime, Perkiomen put the clamps down defensivel­y and pulled away in a non-league win Saturday.

Perkiomen was led by Josh Odunowo’s 17 points. Honor Huff and Gilbert Otoo both scored 15 each.

Perkiomen plays next on Wednesday in their second Great Atlantic Conference league game against Scotland Campus Sports, currently the No. 4 ranked prep school in the country. HARRITON 63, PHOENIXVIL­LE 51 >> Markus BradleyLow­ry hit five 3s and scored 27 points to lead the Rams over the host Phantoms.

Steven Hamilton hit for 24 points, including 18 in the second half, to carry Phoenixvil­le. Mike Memmo scored 14 as the Phantoms hung in after a first half they trailed 32-11. METHACTON 69, MALVERN PREP 60 >> The Warriors got big games from Jeff Woodward and Erik Timko in a win at the Play by Play Fred Pickett Classic held at Chester High School Saturday. Woodward scored 25 and Timko 23 to key the Methacton offense.

Girls basketball

POTTSGROVE 48, UPPER DARBY 35 >> The Falcons opened up a 32-10 halftime lead and eased to a 2-0 start at their home tournament.

Riley Simon was 7-for-7 from the free-throw line and led Pottsgrove with 13 points. Sydney Mowery and Summer Walker added 10 each. METHACTON 54, RIDLEY 40 >> The hosts claimed the championsh­ip of the 12th annual Methacton TipOff Tournament thanks in part to 19 points from sophomore Nicole Timko and a double-double from Sydney Tornetta (14 points, 10 rebounds).

Timko and Tornetta were named to the all-tournament team. Freshman Cassidy Kropp chipped in 11 points and Sydney Hargrove had six points and nine rebounds. McCaughan scored 13 for Ridley. SPRINGDALE PREP 63, HILL SCHOOL 26 >> Hill was handled by Springdale Prep in the championsh­ip game of the 17th annual Hill Girls’ Basketball Tournament Saturday.

Junior Elena Mendez scored nine and sophomore Aine Farrell added six for Hill (1-4). PHOENIXVIL­LE 58, CHESTER 7>> The Phantoms won by blowout to finish 2-0 at the Phoenixvil­le tournament.

Aubrie Breisblatt scored 15 and was named to the all-tournament team and Nailah Green added nine. Angelina Williams of Phoenixvil­le was named Tournament MVP.

Co-ed swimming HILL RELAYS >> The meet got the Blues boys and girls teams off to a strong start to the 2019-20 season.

On the boys’ side, Hill took first, Peddie second, Lawrencevi­lle third, Perkiomen fourth, and Kiski fifth. Peddie won the 400 medley relay, the 4 x 100 IM relay and the 800 free relay. Hill won the free crescendo relay, the 200 fy relay, the 200 Breast relay and the 200 free relay. Lawrencevi­lle won the 200 back relay.

On the girls’ side, Peddie School took first, Hill second and Villa Maria Ac. third, Lawrencevi­lle School was fourth and Perkiomen School fifth.

Peddie won the 400 medley relay, the 800 free relay and the 200 breast relay. Hill won the 4x100 IM relay, the 200 fly relay and the 200 free relay. Lawrencevi­lle won the free crescendo relay and Villa Maria the 200 back relay.

Track and field

URSINUS INVITATION­AL >> Owen J. Roberts’ Brooke Corson set a school record with a state-qualifying 11-6 in the pole vault Saturday at Ursinus. Corson was more than two feet better than the competitio­n.

Pope John Paul II sophomore Kayla Croiger was champion in the girls’ high jump by clearing 4-11. Methacton sophomore Coco Dunham took third in the triple jump (34-10¼).

Boyertown senior Christian McComb won the mile in 4:39.23, well ahead of runner-up Mitchell Feyl of Holy Ghost Prep (4:53.16). Methacton junior Aaron Sanchez placed first in the high jump, clearing 5-11. He added a second in the long jump, his 20-5 bested only by Haverford’s Collin Ney (20-9).

Methacton senior Nick Ruppert cleared 12-0 for second in the pole vault.

Boyertown junior Julian Saunders placed third in the boys’ 55 meters (6.64). Methacton’s Ty Darby came fifth (6.78). In the 55-meters hurdles, Methacton senior Andrew Bregman took second (8.16).

Methacton sophomore Bryan Landsberg took fifth in the 3,000 meters in 10:03.37.
