POTTSTOWN >> Pottstown Hospital – Tower Health employees donated more than $32,000 to area charities in 2019.

More than $10,000 was donated through “Casual for a Cause,” a weekly dressdown day spearheaded by the Celebrate and Recognize Employees’ Work (CREW) committee at Pottstown Hospital.

Established in 2013, the committee engages employees in efforts to give back to the community. Each month, a charity is designated and every week, employees pay $3 for a “Casual for a Cause” sticker that allows them to wear jeans and Pottstown Hospital spirit wear on Fridays. The total for the month is calculated and a check is sent on behalf of the hospital employees to the selected charity.

“I am constantly amazed by the generosity of our employees,” said Rich Newell, Pottstown Hospital President and CEO. “Whether they are supporting ‘Casual for a Cause,’ volunteering in the Pottstown community, serving on boards of local organizations, or collecting supplies for our soldiers and local schools, our employees are engaged in the community and making a difference.”

A sample of the local organizations supported in 2019 include: Family Services of Montgomery County, Pottstown Cluster of Religious Communities, Operation143 (formerly Operation Backpack), Association for Adults with Developmental Disabilities, and Art Fusion.

National health-related organizations supported by Pottstown Hospital include The American Cancer Society’s Real Men Wear Pink. Rich Newell is an ambassador for the ACS Real Men Wear Pink. Newell challenged male department directors to wear pink, raise funds and matched their donations, for a total of $8,000.

The remaining $13,886 was raised by employees through Pottstown Hospital’s participation in TriCounty Network’s Amazing Raise. The Amazing Raise is a one-day giving challenge that helps to raise needed funds, while shining a spotlight on the work of non-profits in the TriCounty Area (Montgomery County, Eastern Berks County, Northern Chester County).
