Defense drives Pottsgrove past PJP

POTTSGROVE 35, POPE JOHN PAUL II 22 >> Riley Simon and Summer Walker sparked a solid defense that enabled the Falcons to handcuff the Golden Panthers in Thursday’s PAC Frontier Division game.

Simon had six steals, and Walker five, as Pottsgrove held PJP to 11 points through the first three quarters. Simon also had eight rebounds to go with her 10 points, and Sydney Mowery led the Pottsgrove offense with her 16-point effort.

PERKIOMEN VALLEY 53, NORRISTOWN 26 >> Naiya Daisey and Grace Ramsey combined to outscore the entire Eagle lineup as the Vikings rolled in Thursday’s PAC Liberty Division pairing.

Daisey netted a game-high 18 for PV, with Ramsey hitting for another 10.

PHOENIXVIL­LE 68, POTTSTOWN 40 >> Aubrie Breisblatt and Nailah

Green combined for 27 points to key the Phantoms in Thursday’s PAC Frontier Division victory over the Trojans.

Breisblatt shared game scoring honors with Pottstown’s Tamya Jarrett, both scoring 14. Green followed closely with 13, helping Phoenixvil­le open a 20-7 lead on its hosts after one quarter.

Boys basketball

BOYERTOWN 62, OWEN J. ROBERTS 26 >> The Bears rode balanced scoring to victory over the Wildcats in Thursday’s PAC Liberty Division matchup.

Boyertown’s scoring was well spread out, with Tre Diguglielm­o leading them with 12 points, Mason Marinello had 8, Eddie Higgins and Aarick Salata with 7 each and Roman Marinello, Alex Obarow and Ryan Schaefer all add 6 apiece. The Wildcats were lead by Jalen Lucas with 17 points. POPE JOHN PAUL II 53, POTTSGROVE 35 >> Drew McKeon headed a trio of double-figure scorers that propelled the Golden Panthers to victory over the Falcons in Thursday’s PAC Frontier Division contest.

McKeon had 16 points ahead of Luke McCarthy (12) and Justin Green (10). Pottsgrove’s leading scorers were Nick Stringer (11 points) and Zion Dyches (10).

UPPER MERION 53, UPPER PERKIOMEN 42 >> Nick Shepperd’s hot shooting from the foul line was key to the Vikings’ PAC Frontier Division victory over the Indians Thursday.

Shepperd scored almost half of his game-high 24 points on 11-for-13 free throw accuracy. UP’s offensive leaders were Sean Boyle with 18 points, and Nick Aron with 12. NORRISTOWN 49, PERKIOMEN VALLEY 47 >> A late scoring run by the Vikings fell short of the Eagles in Thursday’s PAC Liberty Division game.

PV, outscoring Norristown 13-6 in the fourth quarter, got a 12-point night from Tyler Lapetina. The Eagles’ scoring leaders were Nizer Kinney with 18 and Willie Anderson at 13. METHACTON 73, SPRINGFORD 40 >> Building a 25-8 lead in the first quarter Thursday, the Warriors rolled over the Rams in their PAC Liberty Division matchup.

Jeff Woodward led the way for Methacton (7-0) with 19 points, Erik Timko added 14 and Owen Kropp 13. Tre Medearis scored 12 to lead Spring-Ford. MUHLENBERG 72, DANIEL BOONE 33 >> Tyler Kipp scored 18 points and made two of his team’s eight 3-pointers to lead the Muhls over the Blazers in Berks Conference play Thursday.

Logan Hinkle scored 12 points to head Boone.

Boys swimming

OWEN J. ROBERTS 101, METHACTON 77 >> With four swimmers each winning pairs of individual events, the Wildcats outswam the Warriors in Thursday’s PAC meet.

Nathan VanNatter took the 200 free (1:48,92) and 100 breast (1:03,16) for Owen J, with similar performanc­es turned in by Jonah Kasznay (200 IM, 500 free), Will Cano (50 free, 100 free) and Dalton Fink (100 fly, 100 back). Methacton’s lone first was turned in by the 400 free relay team of Tommy Gibbs, Christophe­r

Groff, Dylan Pham and Jan Perez Bonilla, who combined for a 3:26.74 clocking. BOYERTOWN 96, POPE JOHN PAUL II 74 >> Justin Morris was a two-event winner for the Bears in Thursday’s PAC meet with the Golden Panthers.

Morris headed the 50 free (24.71) and 100 fly (59.18). PJP got an individual first from Hugh Trexler in the 100 back (1:34.05) and a win from the 400 free relay foursome of Bobby McCauley, Matt Brun, Owen Bator and Trexler (5:15.75). SPRING-FORD 93, UPPER PERKIOMEN 74 >> Headed by the two-win outings of Luke McKenna and Brendan Baganski, the Rams handled the Indians in Thursday’s PAC meet.

McKenna won the 200 IM (2:08.80) and 500 free (5;05.14) while Baganski headed the 50 free (22.60) and 100 free (49.59). Kevin Kovalenko got UP an individual first in the 100 breast (1:02.45).

READING HIGH 92, DANIEL BOONE 84 >> Daniel Boone’s Chris Guiliano broke two pool records to highlight the Blazers’ Berks Conference outing with the Red Knights Thusday.

Guiliano won the 200 free in 1:44.27 and the 50 free (21.27) as part of Boone’s 200 free relay. Reading High’s Rick Tolland held the old 200 free record at 1:45.10 since 1985, and Muhlenberg’s Eric Hillbish held the old 50 free record at 21.73 since 1999. HUN SCHOOL 121, PERKIOMEN SCHOOL 40 >> Hun School took first in all events on the way to Thursday’s nonleague victory over the Panthers.

OWEN J. ROBERTS 97, METHACTON 81 >> Abbey Malmstrom won two individual events to head the Wildcats in Thursday’s PAC meet with the Warriors.

Malmstron took the 200 free (2:03.34) and the 500 free (5:34.06). For Methacton, Amanda Tsai headed the field in the 100 back (1:03.24).

BOYERTOWN 86, POPE JOHN PAUL II 65 >> Hannah Shaner’s two individual-event wins keyed the Bears’ PAC victory over the Golden Panthers Thursday.

Shaner’s firsts were in the 200 IM (2:20.79) and 100 free (58.05). Scoring firsts for PJP were Hillary Pope in the 100 back (1:24.40) and Maggie Sullivan in the 100 breast (1:23.37). SPRING-FORD 100, UPPER PERKIOMEN 70 >> Anna Curran, Meredith Ruckelshau­s and Ashley Gutshall figured on a combined five firsts by the Rams as they outswam the Indians in PAC meet action Thursday.

Curran won the 500 free (5:41.86), Gutshall the 50 free (25.99) and Ruckelshau­s the 109 fly (1:05.56); they also swam legs of Spring-Ford’s winning 200 medley (2:00.38) and 200 free (1:46.28) relays. For UP, Noel Fresa headed the 200 free (1:59.26) and 100 free (54.10) as well as swimming the lead leg of its 400 free relay (;57.78).

READING HIGH 105, DANIEL BOONE 65 >> Rachel Bozenhard accounted for the Blazers’ lone first-place showing in Thursday’s Berks Conference meet with the Red Knights.

Bozenhard won the 100 fly in a time of 1:11.76.

HUN SCHOOL 104, PERKIOMEN SCHOOL 36 >> Hun School took first in all events on the way to Thursday’s nonleague victory over the Panthers.
