Upper Perk wrestling stays perfect in PAC Frontier

UPPER PERKIOMEN 42, PHOENIXVIL­LE 25 » The Indians opened a 30-point lead in Wednesday’s PAC Frontier Division match, then weathered the Phantoms’ late stretch run to become the division’s lone unbeaten team.

Pins by Joey Carpenter (126), Mike Milkowich (132) and Keaton Durning (145) combined with Zach Rozanski’s technical fall at 152 and Gavin Marks’ major decision at 138 to give UP a 33-3 lead. Phoenixvil­le then took four of the final six weights, headed by pins from Owen Koch (170) and David Polanki (195) to close the point spread.

Damon Faraco scored another pin for UP at 220. BOYERTOWN 43, PERKIOMEN VALLEY 29 » On their Senior Night, the Bears burst out to a 24-0 lead thanks to the bookends of the lineup for a PAC Liberty Division victory Wednesday night.

Boyertown won the first four bouts by pin or forfeit with Robert Terra (285), Jay Maldonado (113) and Derek Renninger (120) scoring first-period pins to grab the big lead.

PV got within 24-14 after wins from Luke Ricci (pin at 126), Kelly Kakos (decision at 132) and PJ Kakos (technical fall at 138).

But Boyertown won three of the next four matches thanks to Evan Detwiler

(145), Noah Fisher (12) and Alan Alexander (170), whose pin clinched the win.

Other pinfall winners were Anthony Bauer (220) for Boyertown, and Jacob Sturm (182) and Jakob Sterling (195) for PV. POTTSTOWN 58, POPE JOHN PAUL II 15 » In a match that featured only four contested bouts, Malchi Jones majored at 126 and Josiah Wiggins pinned at 182 to lead the Trojans to a PAC Frontier win Wednesday.

Blake Fisher (pin at 285) and Matt Delciotto (6-3 decision at 160) were winners for PJP. Pottstown benefitted from eight forfeit wins. POTTSGROVE 60, UPPER MERION 16 » The Falcons scored four pins and benefitted from six forfeits to roll the Vikings in Wednesday’s PAC Frontier Division match.

The Pottsgrove falls came from Christian Drager (113), Charles Sithens (132), Dominic Sithens (182) and Zachary Van Horn (220). A majority of UM’s scoring came from pins by Collin Power (120) and Miguel Amor (145). NORRISTOWN 36, METHACTON 34 » Tijear Brittingha­m’s pin proved big for the Eagles Wednesday, completing their comeback from a 16-point deficit to overtake the Warriors in their PAC Liberty Division match.

The first-period fall at 285 capped a three-bout swing that included other drops by Todd Picard (195) and Chris Carter (220). Methacton built its early lead off pins by Jacob Gronwaldt (120), Edgar Carbajal (145) and Roman Moser (170), in and around Osvaldo Carbajal’s technical fall at 126 and major decisions from Brody Borkowski (160) and Joshua Cancro (182).

WILSON 42, DANIEL BOONE 29 » An unlikely fall in the first bout sparked the Bulldogs to a victory that knocked the Blazers out of the Berks Wrestling League playoffs.

Seth Kramlich scored a fall at 170 pounds to get visiting Wilson off to a quick start Wednesday night. The Bulldogs (6-1, 8-4) went on to win the next three bouts to build a 23-0 lead over the shorthande­d Blazers (5-2, 12-5).

Needing a win to clinch the Berks I title, Boone was without two-time Berks 113-pound champion Gavin Richard and 160-pounder Devin Dolla.

The Blazers tried to stage a comeback with back-toback decisions by Kyle Bernet at 285 and Brett Marchiano at 106 but Wilson took advantage of Richard’s absence at 113 when Kelvin Rodriguez scored a fall there to boost its lead to 29-6.

Boys basketball

HILL SCHOOL 71, FRIENDS CENTRAL 51 » The Blues used a strong and balanced first half to build an insurmount­able 43-21 halftime lead, and coasted to the road victory, Hill’s fifth straight win.

In the opening half, Gabe Dorsey netted 13 of his game-high 15 points and Gabe Moss chipped in 10 of his 12. Hill (12-5) extended its lead to 63-31 by the end of the third quarter. Michael Eze gave Hill a strong lift with 10 points off the bench, Daniel Nixon added 12, and Caleb Dorsey added eight points and nine rebounds. Zach Lezanic distribute­d expertly for eight assists in very limited minutes. FLEETWOOD 48, DANIEL BOONE 47 » The Tigers came back from an eight point deficit with two minutes left to earn the victory over the Blazers.

Ryan Will had 14 points and Jake Karnish 12 to lead Fleetwood. Larnell Towson had 16 and Moses McDonnell 13 points for Daniel Boone.

Girls Basketball

HILL SCHOOL 54, PERKIOMEN SCHOOL 25 » The host Blues stormed out to a 12-0 lead and did not look back in a non-league battle between the area’s two prep programs Wednesday.

Junior Cynthia Williams scored a game-high 20 points, setting the tone early by scoring 14 in the first quarter. Senior Eve Nealon followed with 15 points for Hill, including a pair of three-pointers.

Chardae Stone led the Panthers with 11, and Janayshia Brown added nine.
