UPPER MERION » The League of American Bicyclists has awarded GVF with the Silver Level Bicycle Friendly Business award. GVF is among 1,366 businesses across the country to receive recognition from the organization for their efforts toward building a more bicycle friendly America.

“When places make it easier for people to choose to bike, they are building safer, stronger and better-connected communities. The League of American Bicyclists is thrilled when organizations like GVF join us in this movement to build a more Bicycle Friendly America. When more people are biking to work or shop, life is better for everyone,” Bill Nesper, executive director of the League of American Bicyclists, said in a statement.

This isn’t the first time GVF has been recognized by the League of American Bicyclists — increasing its level of recognition this year from bronze to silver.

GVF will continue to encourage employees to bike to work by providing necessary amenities such as showers, changing rooms, bike storage and bike share program, according to the company. Through its partnership with Bikesport, located in Trappe, GVF is offering three Cannondale bikes for employees to use to bike to work, use during lunch or to run an errand.

“As we advocate for extensions and connections in our trail networks, it is important to offer these amenities to our employees, so they have an opportunity to take advantage of our tremendous trail and improve the environment,” Rob Henry, executive director, GVF, said in a statement.

Each May, during bike to work month, GVF coordinates its Bike to Work Day, partnering with Montgomery and Chester County elected officials and businesses in the area to bike together as a group while advocating to improve the environment and quality of life.

GVF is a not-for-profit organization founded in 1990 “to advocate and promote a viable transportation network for the region’s economic vitality,” according to a press release. GVF partners with public and private organizations to maximize awareness and develop support. For more information about GVF visit www. gvftma.com.

The League of American Bicyclists’ mission is to “create a Bicycle Friendly America for everyone,” according to the organization’s website, through education, advocacy and promotion.

The League’s Bicycle Friendly America program offers assistance and recognition for states, communities, universities and businesses, “to make bicycling a real transportation and recreation option for all people. For more information visit www.bikeleague.org/bfa
