Norristown duo leads PAC finishers at PTFCA Indoor state championships
Two Norristown seniors were the top Pioneer Athletic Conference finishers this weekend at the Pennsylvania Track & Field Coaches Association Indoor State Championship at Penn State University in State College, Pa.
Norristown senior Teliyah James finished second in the girls 200-meter dash (24.84), and classmate Austin Montgomery took home a silver in the boys long jump (23 feet, 10 inches). The Eagles’ boys 4x200 relay team also finished second with a time of 1:29.38.
Owen J. Roberts sophomore Brooke Corson placed fourth in the girls pole vault with a jump of 12 feet. Wildcats’ freshman Claire Zubey finished fifth in the miles (5:05.42). Also on the girls’ side, Spring-Ford sophomore Nene Mokonchu finished fifth in the high jump (5-4), and Rams’ junior Maura Baker placed 12th in the shot put (38-1.5).
Boyertown senior Emma Elwell was a two-event medalist, finishing sixth in the 200-meter (25.35) and seventh in the girls 60-meter (7.86). Classmate Madison Gallagher placed 11th in the shot put (38-6.25), while the Bears’ girls 4x200 relay team finished fourth (1:45.10).
Phoenixville’s Olesya Sitkowski rounded out the area’s finalists with a 17th place finish in the pole vault (10-6).
On the boys’ side of things, Methacton senior Andrew Bregman’s time of 8.41 seconds in the 60-meter hurdles was good for sixth place. Daniel Boone senior Anthony DeFusco finished 11th in the boys triple jump (42-8.75), and Boyertown junior Julian Saunders placed 16th in the 200 meter (22.41).
The Bears’ boys distance medley relay finished seventh (10:35.28) and the Norristown 4x200 relay team finished 18th (1:46.82) to round out the area state finalists.
