Jersey Mike’s kicks off ‘Month of Caring’
PHILADELPHIA » Jersey Mike’s Subs restaurants across the country — including 14 in the Greater Philadelphia region — have kicked off the company’s annual Month of Giving. It is the 10th year for the fast-casual sandwich chain’s fundraising effort, which runs through the month of March.
This year, restaurants in the Greater Philadelphia region will once again raise money for Alex’s Lemonade Stand, which works to fund research and raise awareness about childhood cancer and support families.
“This March, we celebrate our 10th Annual Month of Giving, an idea inspired by one of our local franchise owners,” Peter Cancro, Jersey Mike’s founder and CEO, said in a press release. “Since then, we have raised more than $31 million with the support of our generous local owners, crew members and customers.” Cancro bought his first sub shop, in Point Pleasant Beach, N.J. where he grew up, when he was 17.
Throughout the month, customers can make a donation to Alex’s Lemonade Stand at the participating Jersey Mike’s locations. Restaurants in Radnor, Horsham, West Chester, Phoenixville, Glen Mills, Blue Bell, Reading, Doylestown, Allentown and Easton are participating. In addition to the Greater Philadelphiaarea restaurants, three locations in the Wilkes Barre-area and one location in Hamilton Square, N.J., will be raising funds for Alex’s Lemonade Stand.
The month-long fundraising effort culminates in the chain’s “Day of Giving,” which is March 25 this year. On that day, area Jersey Mike’s locations will give 100 percent of the day’s sales — not just profit — to Alex’s Lemonade
Stand. It is the fourth year Jersey Mike’s has raised money to support the organization.
Last year, Jersey Mike’s Subs locations in eastern Pennsylvania, southern New Jersey and the Wilkes-Barre area raised just shy of $78,000 for Alex’s Lemonade Stand during March, nearly $5,000 more than in 2018.
Nationwide in 2019, the sandwich chain donated more than $7.3 million raised during the month of March to 200 local charities nationwide.
The Month of Giving was an idea launched in 2010 by a Dallas/Ft. Worth, Texas franchise owner, who rallied 11 Jersey Mike’s locations to raise money for charity. That first effort was a success, according to information on the Jersey Mike’s website, and the next year the program was taken nationwide.
