NORRISTOWN » Montgomery County officials said the investigation is continuing into a shooting last week that occurred on the parking of LA Fitness in Upper Merion that ended in the death of a King of Prussia man.

“It’s still an active investigation,” Kate Delano, director of communications for the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office, said on Tuesday.

County detectives and the Upper Merion Township Police Department are conducting a joint investigation of the 9:56 p.m. Feb. 28 shooting that occurred outside the fitness club in the King of Prussia Town Center.

The man killed during the shooting was identified as Alan Womack Jr., 28, of King of Prussia, according to Delano.

According to a report issued by Upper Merion police Chief Thomas Nolan, police and emergency medical officials responded to a report of the shooting and when officers arrived on scene they discovered a male, subsequently identified as Womack, on the ground with a gunshot wound to his upper body.

Womack was transported to Paoli Hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival, according to police.

“At this point it appears that this shooting occurred in the parking lot as two males were leaving LA Fitness after a previous argument on the basketball court,” Nolan wrote in a news release. “During this dispute, both males fired handguns at each other and one male was struck by gunfire.”

According to police, the man who fired the fatal round has been questioned by police. Previously, police said there was no one else involved in the shooting, and there was no danger to the community.
