Join the Girlz Nite Out Dance party
Female fitness and bonding on the agenda
Mothers, daughters and girlfriends are invited to enjoy the Girlz Nite Out Dance Party on March 28.
Women and girls of all ages will come together to slide, shuffle and move to the beat for a community dance party celebration.
Mothers, daughters and girlfriends are invited to enjoy the Girlz Nite Out Dance Party on Saturday, March 28, at the Boyertown YMCA from 6 to 9 p.m.
“It’s multi-generational. I’ve been kind of throwing around the ages 1 to 100 to get the idea across,” said Joanne Alburger, 53, of Barto.
Alburger is the official organizer of the free dance party designed for women and girls. Participants will dance to the tunes of a DJ and capture memories of the night with a photo booth. The party on March 28 is the first of several community dance events Alburger hopes to host in the future.
“I wanted to dance my whole life and never really had chances or took the opportunity to do it,” she said.
Alburger said she often meets other women who are also looking for dance opportunities in a family-friendly environment. She said the women just want to be comfortable and have fun dancing to music such as what happens during a wedding reception. Alburger said she always notices how excited young girls at wedding receptions are to get on the dance floor.
“They’re out there twirling in their dresses and those little kids, they’ll just dance all night,” she said.
Alburger created the Girlz Nite Out event because she didn’t want women and girls to have to wait until their next wedding reception for a fun group dance opportunity.
She said dance is a healthy way for women to celebrate other women. She regularly takes a Zumba class, a fitness dance program, at the Boyertown YMCA. Alburger said dance not only has physical health benefits but is also great for your mental health. She said dancing to a song can turn a sad day into a happy one.
“Music and dance are just magical. I just kind of think they’re like the best medicine,” Alburger said.
The Girlz Nite Out Dance Party will be a judgmentfree zone where women can bring female family members or friends as a way to spend time with one another. Alburger said the event is meant to be a fun bonding experience. She said people shouldn’t be deterred to come if they feel they aren’t the best dancer.
“That’s not the important thing. The important thing is hopefully to listen to some songs you like, maybe sing at the top of your lungs. Be goofy. Be silly and just enjoy the music,” she said.
Alburger said the DJ will be taking song requests during the dance party. She hopes to use song requests at future events to raise money for charities. Participants will be able to request a song for a spotlight moment where they will dance in the center of the room.
Alburger encourages those who attend the dance party to come in whatever way makes them comfortable and happy; whether that’s in a dress, sweats or cultural outfit.
