PECO, EXELON FOUNDATION DONATE TO CORONAVIRUS RESPONSE
Increases funds for Pennsylvania efforts to $1.1 million
PHILADELPHIA » PECO has announced it is donating additional funding to the United Way and local nonprofit organizations to help residents impacted by the coronavirus pandemic.
The increased funding from PECO and the Exelon Foundation brings the total amount donated to $1.1 million — to be used for coronavirus response and relief efforts across the Greater Philadelphia region.
The additional donation includes support for the Foundation for Delaware County, Montgomery County Foundation, United Way of Berks County, United Way of Bucks County, United Way of Chester County and the United Way of Greater Philadelphia & Southern New Jersey. The remaining funds will be distributed based on emergent needs in Pennsylvania, according to a press release.
“We remain committed to supporting our customers and communities in their time of need. Through this donation, we hope to assist Pennsylvania nonprofits and relief organizations in providing much needed resources to address the hardships felt across our state,” Mike Innocenzo, PECO president and CEO, said in the release. He added the company will continue to work with Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Wolf and other state and local officials throughout the crisis.
To date, the Exelon Foundation, Exelon Corp. and its family of companies have pledged more than $5.7 million to national and local nonprofits in response to COVID-19, including more than $1 million committed to the state of Pennsylvania.
Previous donations include a combined $500,000 to the United Way of Greater Philadelphia & Southern New Jersey’s
PHL COVID-19 Fund, the United Way of Bucks County, the United Way of Chester County, The Salvation Army of Greater Philadelphia, Manna, Project Home, Philabundance, MontCo Anti-Hunger Network, and Foundation for Delaware County.
PECO, along with other electric utilities in the state have suspended service disconnection and late payment charges. PECO just announced this week it is extending its support through June 1. Additionally, PECO customers that lost access to energy services before this public health emergency are encouraged to contact PECO to have their service restored safely.
“Through this donation, we hope to assist Pennsylvania nonprofits and relief organizations in providing much needed resources to address the hardships felt across our state.”
