Jersey Mike’s Subs is teaming up with Feeding America to help food banks across the country address the increased need for food assistance due to the continued spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19).

On Saturday, April 25, and Sunday, April 26, Jersey Mike’s will donate 20 percent of its sales to Feeding America.

The donation is part of a pledge by the fast-casual sandwich chain to donate at least $1 million to help Feeding America’s network of 200 food banks. The network includes Philabundance, which has Chester, Delaware and Montgomery counties in its service area and Helping Harvest in Berks County.

If the amount raised by the weekend’s sales falls short of $1 million, the company will add an additional donation to get to the pledged amount, according to Josie Capozzi, senior vice president, franchise relations, Jersey Mike’s Franchise Systems Inc.

In an emailed response to questions, Capozzi said Feeding America will determine where the funds go.

“However, we have asked them to allocate them to food banks around our restaurants across the country so the donations stay local,” she added.

“School closures and rising unemployment due to shelterin-place and stay-at-home orders has disproportionately impacted people already at risk of hunger,” Katie Fitzgerald, executive vice president and chief operating officer at Feeding America, said in a press release. “We are grateful for Jersey Mike’s generous support of food banks that are in communities helping people who struggle with hunger. This donation will help our member food banks provide more meals to people who need them most.”

More than 37 million people in America face hunger and Feeding America estimates that an additional 17.1 million people could face hunger in the next six months as a result of the pandemic.

To make a donation, Jersey Mike’s customers can place takeout orders in-store or for no contact pick-up at the door through

Jersey Mike’s website or the Jersey Mike’s app. Delivery is available through the app or through third-party delivery partners.

Jersey Mike’s restaurants in the Greater Philadelphia-area include Radnor, Horsham, West Chester, Phoenixville, Glen Mills, Blue Bell, Reading, Doylestown, Allentown and Easton.

“You’ll help a great national cause, Feeding America, and make a difference in someone’s life,” Peter Cancro, founder and CEO of Jersey Mike’s Franchise Systems Inc., said in the release.

This weekend’s sales donation event is the latest in the company’s efforts to give back to its communities. During the course of the pandemic, Jersey Mike’s franchise owners across the country have donated at least 2 million subs to local hospitals, first responders, children in need of a meal, senior citizens and more — including the USNS Comfort — the company said.

Jersey Mike’s signature event is its Month of Giving — held in March for the last 10 years to raise money for 200 partner charities around the country. The culmination of the month is the Day of Giving — when 100 percent of the days sales are donated to a charity selected by the stores. This year’s Day of giving was canceled because of the pandemic.
