A Montgomery County woman hurled a knife at her boyfriend in his Bechtelsville home out of frustration over his refusal to eat, police said Monday.

Eastern Berks Regional police Officer Matthew Merry responded to a report of a stabbing Sunday about 3 p.m. in the first block Race Street and found a man in a chair in the middle room holding a belt as a tourniquet around his lower right leg.

Eastern Berks Regional police are contracted to patrol Bechtelsville.

Police provided this further account:

The officer used a department-issued tourniquet and removed the clothing that was wrapped around the knife to make sure the bleeding had stopped.

The man’s girlfriend, Denaile Barbacow, 31, was in the room. The man, whose name was not released, initially said he had accidentally stabbed himself cutting jalapenos. Merry said that didn’t make sense because the knife was inserted in his leg in an upward direction.

The man insisted he cut himself accidentally but finally relented, saying he and Barbacow were arguing for about an hour. He was sitting in a chair, and she was holding a knife in her hand.

She wanted him to eat and he was refusing to eat. She hurled a knife at him, striking him in the leg.

Barbacow gave the officer the same account. She said she got angry because she wanted him to eat and threw the knife at him “out of reflex.”

Barbacow of East Greenville was arrested on charges of aggravated and simple assault and possessing an instrument of crimes.

She remained free to await a hearing following arraignment before District Judge Eric J. Taylor in Reading Central Court.

Her boyfriend was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
