Donations sought for Ashwood fire victims

Many have asked how they can help the 45-plus families who lost everything in the Ashwood Apartment fire three weeks ago.

Branch Life Church, 780 Pughtown Road, South Coventry, is hosting a free family cookout on Sunday from noon-2 p.m. to give these families a chance to see each other, eat some good food, let the kids have some fun and win some great prizes.

“We are good with volunteers, food (thank you Grumpy’s) and live music! We are looking for a group to sponsor kids’ activities ($600) and for prize donations,” said Josh Park, the church pastor.

“Everyone can help in a big way by donating prizes to help these families. We are open to any prizes you can think of but they need to be new,” he said.

Suggestions include new computers, gaming consoles, iPads. “Even Ikea gift cards for furniture or other gift cards for electronics, clothes, fun events and more could also be given,” he said.

The plan is to let the families submit their name in for the prizes they’d like — then draw a name for each prize during the event.

Although the group is open to creative ideas, furniture and large appliances are not able to be used as prizes for this event since most families are still in hotels.

Prizes can be brought to church’s outdoor pavilion off Pushtown Road between 10 and 11:30 a.m. on the day of the event.

Email jpark@ branchlife.church with questions or if you or your organization would like to contribute to or be a part of the event.

Financial donations for the families can still be made directly to the relief fund online at TCNetwork.org
