Norristown resident sentenced on drug charges
NORRISTOWN » A Norristown man will be under court supervision for one year after he admitted to possessing heroin and methamphetamine in West Norriton Township.
Antoine Terry Bright, 37, of the 600 block of Green Street, was sentenced in Montgomery County Court to six to 12 months in the county jail after he pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of possession of a controlled substance in connection with the February incident.
Judge William R. Carpenter, who accepted a plea agreement in the matter, said Bright will receive credit for the time he’s been in jail since Feb. 7.
A charge of possession of drug paraphernalia was dismissed against Bright as part of the plea agreement.
The investigation began about 10:20 p.m. Feb. 6 when West Norriton police conducted a traffic stop of a vehicle on Lynn Drive, a vehicle in which Bright was a passenger. In the criminal complaint, police alleged they observed Bright making “furtive, quick, jerky movements inside the vehicle.”
After Bright was removed from the vehicle, he admitted to having heroin in his pocket, according to the criminal complaint filed by West Norriton Police Corporal Christopher Avery.
“I asked why he was moving around so much and he stated he was trying to hide the heroin. Four bags of heroin were removed from Bright’s front pocket,” Avery alleged, adding the heroin was stamped with the words “After Party.”
Bright was then placed in a police vehicle and during the trip to the township police department he continued to move multiple times in the rear seat of the vehicle, police alleged.
“When Bright was removed from the vehicle there was a chunk of a crystal-like substance on the seat where he was sitting which I identified as methamphetamine,” Avery alleged.
Police said Bright initially denied that the methamphetamine was his but later admitted that he “may have had some in his pocket,” according to the arrest affidavit.
The substance was tested and a positive reaction for methamphetamine was obtained, court documents indicate.
