2020 comes down to choice of nationalism vs. globalism

- —Lee Hallman, Gilbertsville

Our presidential election in November is really, among other things, a choice between nationalism and globalism.

Incumbent President Trump is a nationalist who has said many times, “Let’s make America great again.” The challenger Joe Biden is a globalist. As Vice President in the previous administration, he served under a President who was a globalist, as was his Secretary of State and the loser in the 2016 election.

President Trump feels the best way he can serve the people is to put the interests of our nation first. His predecessor felt it best for us to do what was good for the world-at-large. President Trump disagrees in that he feels that other nations were taking advantage of America for their own national interests. The question now is where do most Americans stand on this dichotomy.

As important as it is to see how the majority of American voters think, the bigger question is to see where we are on God’s calendar for His earth. Fortunately, although God does not usually reveal the exact timing of events except for the Jewish Messiah’s crucifixion in Daniel 9:25-26, He has given us great insight into the overall picture. In that prophecy, God revealed that after the crucifixion of Jesus, there would be an age in time followed by a seven year periodwith a focus on Israel before the Jewish Messiah would be the King in Jerusalem to rule the world.

The Bible makes it clear that globalism will be the description of the world during those seven years: a one-worldwide government. So the important question is where are we on God’s time line? The Church Age, in which we are now living, will end with a catching away of all true Christians, often referred to as the Rapture. That will begin the prophesied period of globalism.

How close are we? We do know many of the Bible signs of the end of the Church Age are present, particularly with the increase in lawlessness so prevalent in our nation. If Joe Biden wins, globalism will have gained impetus. If Donald Trump wins, it would appear that globalism has at least a four year delay. The Bible does not reveal dates, but it has been accurate in its prophetic truth in such a way that it ought to get everyone’s attention!

In my lifetime, I have been privileged to see at least three Old Testament prophecies fulfilled. One was during the Franklin Roosevelt administration when God used World War II to have many Jews return to their homeland in fulfillment of the prophecy in Isaiah 35.

The next was during the Truman administration when he had our UN ambassador vote to approve Israel as an independent nation. Then in 2019, President Trump moved our embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem to inch toward the fulfillment of a prophecy in II Samuel 7 which speaks of the Jewish Messiah taking the throne of David in Jerusalem.

However the election turns out, it would be good to heed the resurrected Messiah’s command to “Be ready.” Our vote is very important; being aware of God’s plans is even more important!
