Township receives grant for new public park

- MediaNews Group

EAST PIKELAND » The township has been awarded a grant from the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources for the construction of a new public park at 87 Ridge Road.

The $192,000 grant, awarded from the C2P2 fund, will help the township realize a goal of creating a space that features an ADA walking path, dog park, community garden, and native meadowland for East Pikeland and area residents.

The township acquired the property as open space in 2005 when the Kimberton Meadows subdivision was approved, but officially took ownership of the property in 2019 with the intention of creating new public recreation space.

The East Pikeland Park and Recreation Board has been working to improve and expand East Pikeland’s park and recreation facilities in order to support the growing population and increased need for public recreation space.

This new park property will join the ranks of the Township’s popular Kimberton Park and the French Creek Trail. A new 115-acre park, Hidden River Park & Preserve, is also being developed along Spring City Road.

The public is invited to participate in a virtual public comment meeting scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 1, at 7 p.m. to give their feedback on the draft plan for this new park.

The plan and presentation will be available on the township’s website following the meeting. Comments will be accepted until October 9.
