Rep. Shusterman in quarantine as precaution

PHOENIXVILLE » State Rep. Melissa Shusterman. D-157th, of Schuylkill Township, is in quarantine after a member of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives tested positive for coronavirus late this week.
“Iwaspresent at theCapitol Tuesday for a Judiciary Committee meeting, and have been notified by contact trace rs ,” Shusterman said on social media .“Per CDC guidelines, I am going into quarantine and will receive a COVID-19 test within the next few days. My staff will continue office operations in my absence, and will represent me at in-person events for the next two weeks. Everyone, please remember to wear a mask, and self-isolate if you are feeling sick.
The state House of Representatives cancelled its voting session Thursday after Rep. PaulSchemel, 48, aRepublican from Franklin County, tested positive Thursday morning. Schemel said in a statement he is self-isolating and has mild symptoms.
“As soon as I received a positive test result on Thursday, I informed the appropriate-House offices,” he said in a statement. “I amfollowing the advice of medical professionals and the protocol soft he PennsylvaniaHouse of Representatives to ensure the safety of my family, staff, and fellow members.”
Shusterman represents Pennsylvania House Dist. 157 that includes parts of Phoenixville, Tredyffrin, andSchuylkill and townships in Chester County, and also parts of Upper Providence Township in Montgomery County.
Although state House employees are all required to wear masks in the Capitol, it does not necessarily apply to the lawmakers. Scheme l’ s press release did not say if he had been wearing a mask while inside the Capitol’s public spaces.
