2017 grad named to education foundation board
POTTSTOWN » Kenil Patel, PottstownHigh School class of 2017, hasbeenelected to a three-year termto the board of directions of the Foundation for Pottstown Education.
The vote occurred at the Sept. 24 meeting.
Board Development and Governance Chairwoman Judy Green presented the motion to accept Patel’s nomination at the meeting, where he was elected unanimously.
Patel was also a member of the Foundation’s Early College Program where he earnedmore than 20 credits at MCCC West Campus. After graduation, he enrolled in Drexel University and is majoring in Engineering Technology with a minor in Biological Sciences.
Patel was selected as an operational intern at the Limerick Generating Station during the summers of his junior and senior years at Pottstown.
He was also a systems engineer intern at LGS during the summer after his first year at Drexel.
In his first three years at Drexel, he has worked as a mechanical design intern at LGS, a digital asset management intern with the Philadelphia Eagles, and a mechanical engineering intern at the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia.
Patel has also volunteered as a speaker on behalf of the Foundation for Pottstown Education to area civic groups.
Patel said “I am very excited and grateful for this opportunity.”
When asked what he feels that he can bring to the board Patel replied “being an involved leader who has gone through the Pottstown School District system’s education, I feel that I can bring forth innovative ideas and thoughtful perspectives to the topics at hand, topics that I have been familiar with by being raised in Pottstown.”
Joe Rusiewicz, executive director of the Foundation for Pottstown Education, said “Kenny was one of the first students thatImetafter being hired to this position. He stood out tome as a personwhois going somewhere but would not forget his roots. I am excited to have him and his talents helping our Board level the educational playing field for the Pottstown School District.”
