Alan D. Jordan, 34, of the Mont Clare section of the township, waived his preliminary hearing.

LIMERICK » An Upper Providence man faces a trial in Montgomery County Court on charges he allegedly possessed images of child pornography, which included toddlers or infants, on his cellphone.

Alan D. Jordan, 34, of the 1400 block of Meadowview Lane, in the Mont Clare section of the township, waived his preliminary hearing before District Court Judge Richard H. Welsh, of Limerick, on 50 felony counts each of possession of child pornography and criminal use of a communication facility in connection with alleged incidents that occurred between March and August.

Jordan will now be scheduled for trial on the charges in county court.

Welsh previously set Jordan’s bail at $50,000 unsecured and he remains free while awaiting his next court hearing. As a condition of release, Jordan was ordered to have no contact with children.

The investigation began in April when Montgomery County detectives received a CyberTip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children that a Google account holder had uploaded two images of child pornography to their account in March. The two images involved nude females who were under the age of 18, according to the arrest affidavit.

An investigation of the internet account linked it to Jordan’s residence, according to court papers.

Detectives, armed with a search warrant, went to Jordan’s residence on June 18 and Jordan allegedly refused to open the door.

“Forcible entry was made into the residence. Jordan was found inside the home,” county Detective Michael R. Shade wrote in the criminal complaint.

Detectives seized Jordan’s electronic devices, including a Samsung Galaxy cellphone, which was locked, and Jordan refused to provide a password to unlock the phone, according to the arrest affidavit. At that time, detectives could not view the contents of the phone.

However, using a specialized investigative service, detectives eventually determined the password for the cellphone.

“They were able to unlock the cellphone and access data stored on the phone,” Shade alleged.

A forensic analysis of the cellphone by detectives found that it contained 242 images of underage boys and girls engaged in sexual acts or sexual poses, according to the arrest affidavit.

“Some of the children appeared to be infant or toddler aged,” Shade alleged.

District Attorney Kevin R. Steele previously explained the Montgomery County Detective Bureau, along with specially trained and sworn detectives from police departments countywide, routinely work with the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force to protect children from alleged internet predators by aggressively and proactively investigating internet crimes that exploit children.

The case is being prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Allison Ruth, who is the captain of the district attorney’s Family Protection Unit.
