Kaiser, Wenger, Weaver named to regional team
Three Pioneer Athletic Conference soccer players were named to the United Soccer Coaches’ All-East Region team released Wednesday.
Pottsgrove senior goalkeeper Luke Kaiser and Boyertown junior forward Beckett Wenger were named to the 28-player boys’ regional team; Owen J. Roberts junior defender Morgan Weaver was chosen to the 32-player girls’ team.
All three were earlier selected to the Pa. Soccer Coaches’ All-State team, as was Spring-Ford junior defender Liv Curry.
Kaiser, the Mercury All-Area Boys Soccer Player of the Year, had seven shutouts and allowed the fewest goals in the Pioneer Athletic Conference while leading Pottsgrove (8-5-1) to the District 1 Class 3A championship game. Wenger was the leading scorer of PAC champion Boyertown (8-5).
Weaver starred at center back for PAC co-champion Owen J. Roberts (10-2-1), helping the team hold opponents to a league-best eight goals on the season.
Lewisburg senior Ben Liscum and Mars senior Ellie Coffield were named Pa. Players of the Year.
Also receiving recognition from the United Soccer Coaches were the Boyertown and Upper Perkiomen girls soccer teams. The teams were named USC High School Team Academic Award winners for their team GPAs, among 178 girls teams nationwide. The Bears, under coach Bill Goddard, were recognized with a 3.62 GPA, for the 14th season in a row.The Indians, led by Mike Freed, carried a 3.72 GPA and were awarded for the 8th straight season.
