Single-dose vaccine arrives at VA center

-

The Coatesville VA Medical Center received the first shipment of the Janssen singledose COVID-19vaccine.

The Coatesville VA Medical Center received the first shipment of the Janssen single-dose COVID-19 vaccine at their facility Wednesday and enrolled Veterans are now being scheduled to have the vaccine administered.

The announcement comes following The Food and Drug Administration’s emergency use authorization of the Janssen COVID-19 vaccine to prevent COVID-19 in individuals 18 years of age and older.

The Janssen COVID-19 vaccine will not replace the current and ongoing distribution of the Moderna vaccine.

Veterans may choose either to receive the Janssen vaccine, which has shown to prevent COVID-19 following a single dose, or to receive Moderna’s two-dose vaccine.

The Janssen vaccine will be administered at our community-based outpatient clinics. If a Veteran chooses Janssen, they will have an appointment at either our Spring City or Delaware County clinics.

Coatesville VA Medical Center will continue to administer the Moderna vaccine at our main campus in Coatesville. Veterans who choose the Moderna vaccine will have an appointment at the main campus.

Coatesville VAMC is currently vaccinating Veterans 65 years of age and over. We are offering the vaccine to Veterans who are at the greatest risk for infection and severe illness based on the CDC’s guidelines and will continue to work our way through the established priority groups.
