Lidl US will increase the starting hourly wage for some of its employees in the Greater Philadelphia region to $15 per hour, effective April 5.

The increase in pay is part of Lidl’s commitment to provide an “industry-leading compensation package” in every market where the grocery chain operates, according to the company. A spokesman for the company said the decision is part of a regular evaluation the company does in all of its markets.

Effective April 5, more than 150 employees at Lidl stores in Folsom,

Delaware County; Royersford, Norristown and Lansdale in Montgomery County; West Whiteland, Chester County; and two Philadelphia stores will see their wages increase to $15 per hour. It will also be the new starting pay for new employees. Previously, the minimum starting pay at those stores was $13. The increase will not apply to employees at Lidl’s Berks County store in Sinking Spring.

“Lidl is proud to offer our team members across the Philadelphia area the most competitive wage and benefits package in the region including comprehensive healthcare for all full and part time employees,” Eoin Byrne, chief human resources officer at Lidl US, said in a press release. “We are committed to supporting our team in every market with an industry leading total compensation package that also includes great benefits,

such as a 401K retirement plan with a generous company match, so they can be at their best and serve our customers.”

Lidl continues to grow and invest across the Greater Philadelphia region. The West Whiteland store opened last week, while the other stores in Berks, Chester, Delaware and Montgomery counties have opened within the last two years. In addition, the company is planning to open 4 new stores across the region by the end of this year, including stores in Clifton Heights, Delaware County, Warminster, Bucks County, Philadelphia and Lancaster.

In October 2019, the company announced plans to provide medical benefits for all of its full- and part-time employees — effective Jan. 1, 2020. The company planned to invest $9 million that first year, and said it expected the investment to increase as the company grows.

Lidl established its U.S. headquarters in Arlington County, Va. in 2015, and today sells its products in more than 130 stores across nine East Coast states, including 11 stores in Pennsylvania. For more information visit www.Lidl.com.
