Daniel Boone School District is set to sell the former Birdsboro Elementary Center for $800,000 to a Union Township resident.

The school has petitioned Berks County Court to finalize the sale, which is required by Pennsylvania School Code. A hearing is scheduled for March 25 at 9:30 a.m.

The district is selling the threestory school building and 8 surrounding acres.

The school board approved the sales agreement with EMS 3000 LLC at a Jan. 11 meeting in a 6-2 vote. The minutes don’t say who opposed the sale. Meeting minutes show resident Cindy McGee asked the board to reconsider the

sale.

McGee, a former Birdsboro council member who opposed the closing of the building, said Friday she wanted the community more involved in the sale process so that the building in the heart of the borough could serve the community.

Tenants are expected to be allowed to stay.

EMS 3000 LLC is owned by Edoardo Satiro of Union Township, according to records on file with the Pennsylvania Department of State. He could not be

reached for comment. He owns other businesses in the area.

The school at 400 W. Second St., Birdsboro, closed in May 2018 after a reconfiguration of the district. Birdsboro officials had strong objections, saying the closing would be detrimental to the borough.

The school district entered into a lease agreement in February 2019 with Abundant Life Assembly of God Church, allowing a portion of the former school to be used for church services and related activities. Birdsboro Fitness and Splash had rented the former school’s library for programs and storage space.
