Vaccine clinic coming to Pottstown Friday
Register now to get a free COVID-19 vaccine shot
Between 500 and 800 doses of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine will be made available Friday at Pottstown Middle School thanks to a joint effort by the Pottstown NAACP and The Medicine Shoppe pharmacy in Boyertown.
The clinic will begin at 5 p.m. Health officials have been concerned that African Americans, who are disproportionately affected by the virus, have not been getting vaccinated at the same rate as caucasians.
Several weeks ago, NAACP president Johnny Corson began working to bring more vaccines to Pottstown.
Meanwhile, NAACP member Ted Josey had been instrumental in getting people at the retirement community where he lives vaccinated through the Medicine Shoppe. He asked pharmacy owner Ed Hudon if he would be willing to do a clinic for the underserved people of Pottstown.
“I’d be honored,” Hudon reportedly told Josey. The pharmacy’s vaccine coordinator, Annalisa Nguyen, handled the logistics.
“This brings hope to the people of Pottstown,” said Corson. “People need to get this shot to protect themselves, their loved ones and
healthcare workers, teachers, people over the age of 65 and people between the ages of 16 and 64 who have certain medical conditions, as specified by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Registration is required. Participants can do so by going to https://hipaa.jotform.com/1348/ NAACP Registrants are cautioned to register only once so the clinic doesn’t wind up with excess vaccines.
Those who do not have internet access may call and leave a voicemail at 610-572-3832. Provide your name, phone number and address.
Those who are registered should arrive at the middle school, located at 600 N. Franklin St., 15 minutes before their appointment time.
They should bring identification, such as a driver’s license, and both their medical insurance card and prescription insurance card. Bring photocopies of your cards to expedite the process.
The vaccination is free, but insurance information is needed for record-keeping.
