R. Elaine Alderfer (Wien)

-

Frederick, PA – Elaine passed away on March 24, 2021 following a brief illness. A dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, her family was her greatest joy. Born in Stowe, PA, the daughter of Anna (Neuman) and Daniel Wien, Elaine was a proud graduate of West Pottsgrove High School where she enjoyed playing field hockey, basketball, and softball.

While in high school, she began working at Levengood’s Florist, which sparked a lifelong love of flowers and gardening. After graduation, she worked for seven years as a secretary for Firestone.

On June 3, 1956, she married her husband of 63 years, Ferrill Alderfer of Harleysville. They built a home and moved to Frederick, PA, in 1958 where they raised their three children and where Elaine made a warm and welcoming home for 63 years.

She was a longtime member of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Obelisk. She enjoyed traveling, visiting the seashore, and meeting monthly with her “club girls,” who were lifelong friends from high school. Elaine brightened the spirit of others with her thoughtful cards and visits to those in need.

Along with her parents, Elaine was predeceased by her sisters June Helfrich and Doris Harp, son-in-law, Bill Johnson; and her adoring husband “Rocky,” who died in 2019.

She is survived by her children, Brooke (Robin) Alderfer of East Norriton, Wendy Johnson of Wilmington, DE, Marc (Connie) Alderfer of Oxford, MD; her grandchildren, Erin, Heather, Rebecca, Chris, Evan and Adam; and her great grandchildren, Ananda, Brady and Elliott.

A private burial service will be held at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Obelisk. A celebration of life is planned for later this spring.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, 3206 Big Road, Zieglerville, PA 19492.

Arrangements are by the Schumacher & Benner Funeral Home & Crematory, at 359 King St. in Pottstown, PA.
