Phillies rally past Mets to reach 4-0
>> On Monday, a throwing error by New York third baseman Luis Guillorme allowed the go-ahead runs to score, and Philadelphia used a five-run eighth inning to rally past New York after Jacob deGrom dominated through six.
Francisco Lindor was 1for 4with a single and a walk in his debut with the Mets, which was delayed after a three-game series against Washington got wiped out because of a coronavirus outbreak among the Nationals.
DeGrom was spectacular, striking out seven and allowing three hits. Miguel Castro pitched the seventh for the Mets but newcomer Trevor May (0-1) only got one out in the eighth, when Guillorme’s errant throw helped Philly take a 5-2lead.
Connor Brogdon (2-0) worked the eighth for the win and Jose Alvarado pitched out of trouble in the ninth for his first save.
All-Star Game moved to Denver >> The All-Star Game will be played at hitterfriendly Coors Field.
Major League Baseball officially announced the new venue Tuesday after pulling the Midsummer Classic from Atlanta over objections to extensive changes to Georgia’s voting laws.
Coors Field last hosted the All-Star Game in 1998. The game will be held July 13.
“Major League Baseball is grateful to the Rockies, the city of Denver and the state of Colorado for their support of this summer’s All-Star Game,” MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred said in a statement. “We appreciate their flexibility and enthusiasm to deliver a first-class event for our game and the region. We look forward to celebrating our sport’s best players and entertaining fans around the world.”
