‘Colossal Yard Sale’ returns Saturday
COLLEGEVILLE >> The Collegeville Economic Development Corp. is hosting its ninth “Colossal Yard Sale,” on Saturday, Sept. 4 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The event will once again be held at Waterworks Park, 220 W. First Ave. in Trappe, and will feature more than 50 sellers, refreshments and a playground area for kids.
The event returns after a oneyear hiatus, due to the coronavirus pandemic. Laid out along “tree-shaded and paved paths,” the event is a great opportunity to pick up some “exciting treasures and low-cost finds,” according to a press release.
“Pre-COVID, our yard sale attracted up to 3,000 shoppers and most often the weather is delightful,” Cathy Kernen, Collegeville Economic Development Corporation’s president, said in the release. “All of our sellers and shoppers love the shady surroundings, and shoppers walked away with hundreds of terrific bargains. This annual town yard sale has become one of our most popular events.”
The Colossal Yard Sale is one of the annual events hosted by the Collegeville Economic Development Corp., a nonprofit that works to promote local businesses and organize events for the Collegeville community, Kernen said.
Proceeds from the yard sale benefit the nonprofit the Collegeville Economic Development Corp.
Kernen said the event will feature a wide variety of sellers.
“They bring antiques and collectables, things that they make, such as bird houses or jewelry, used clothing for all ages, especially kids, kids’ toys, and lots of household items — furniture, china and glassware, holiday decorations, books, CDs, and more,” she said in an emailed response to questions.
She added that feedback for this year’s event has been good.
“More than half of our sellers are people who sold with us in previous years. They love the shady location, and they can drive their cars to their selling spots and keep their cars behind their tables, so it makes it very convenient to load and unload. There is always a very happy vibe at our yard sale,” she said.
The yard sale is handicapped accessible, and offers free parking for shoppers. Rain date for the event is Saturday, Sept. 11.
