OCEAN CITY, N.J. >> It could rank as one of the longest road trips the Pottsgrove football team has ever made in program history.

But their Saturday trek to the Jersey shore definitely qualified as a memorable experience on two counts: (1) Spending a day at one of the Jersey shore’s more-renowned resort towns, and (2) scoring a victory over a regional rival to open their pandemic-altered start to the 2021 season.

Amir Brunson and Shane Caffery each scored pairs of touchdowns, helping the Falcons amass 33 unanswered points in the first half. Ryan Sisko and Tyler Kauffman also got into the scoring act as Pottsgrove — it saw last weekend’s season opener with West

Catholic first suspended by inclement weather, then cancelled when its Philadelphia guests had a COVID-19 issue — dominated a Crusader unit that finally got on the scoreboard in the

second half

The Falcons’ trademark running game was led by Brunson collecting 163 yards and a pair of touchdowns, plays of a combined 131 yards. Sisko (two carries, 27 yards) got their scoring on track with a 30yard run to start, and Caffrey had a one-yard TD to close out the locals’ scoring.

Caffrey also distinguished himself on the defensive side for Pottsgrove, returning an LC fumble 17 yards to the end zone after Sisko’s opening TD. He emerged as the team’s leading tackler with 11 (seven solo).

Sisko and Kauffman later combined on a seven-yard scoring pass in the second quarter, the high point of a passing game that saw Sisko rack up 119 yards on 4-for-5 passing.

Sisko and Gabe Rinda further enhanced the Pottsgrove defense with second-half interceptions. Sisko’s “pick” set up Caffrey’s one-yard run in the third quarter, and Rinda’s snatch came late in the fourth quarter.
