NORRISTOWN » The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office held its 4th Annual Sheriff’s Scholarship Golf Outing at Blue Bell Country Club Monday, Sept. 20.

Following a 2020 hiatus due to the pandemic, the late summer classic returned this year raising more than $45,000 for the Sheriff’s Scholarship Endowment which helps defray the cost of tuition at Montgomery County Community College for sheriff’s office deputies, staff, and family members pursuing their educational goals.

Cpl. Matt Pokorny and Siani Sanders received the two scholarships awarded this year, and Deputy Kayla Lochner-Franz was recognized for being awarded last year’s scholarship.

Cpl. Pokorny is a Plymouth Township native and a19-year veteran of the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office. He was promoted to corporal in 2018 and helps to supervise the transportation/detention division. Pokorny was the sheriff’s office’s first field training officer, and is a Taser instructor, senior safety team member, and background investigator.

Siani Sanders is the daughter of Montgomery

County Sheriff’s Office Manager Sonya Sanders and is the first civilian and first family member of a sheriff’s office employee to receive the Sheriff’s Scholarship. She is a graduate of Norristown Area High School. She previously attended Alabama A&M University and is studying education and communications in pursuit of a career as a physical education teacher.

Deputy Lochner-Franz began her tenure in the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office in 2010. She graduated from Methacton High School and earned her associates degree in Criminal Justice from the Katherine

Gibbs School. She has received numerous letters of appreciation for her work from judges, municipalities and the domestic relations office for her work in special services and our courts division.

Sheriff Kilkenny, MCCC President Victoria BasteckiPerez, and Montgomery County Commissioner Ken Lawrence, an MCCC alum, delivered remarks at a banquet following the outing.

“I want to thank all of our sponsors for their generosity and our volunteers and the staff here at Blue Bell Country Club for making this event such a success,” said Kilkenny, an MCCC trustee who cited his own passion for education as the inspiration for the sheriff’s scholarship fund. “It’s awesome. We now have awarded four of these scholarships and we’re making a difference in people’s lives and that’s what it’s all about.”
