Phoenixvil­le’s Roberts tied for 3rd after Day 1

Phoenixvil­le sophomore Kate Roberts is in the mix at the District 1 Class 3A golf championsh­ips.

A year after having her season end on the first day of districts, Roberts shot a one-under 70 Monday at Raven’s Claw Golf Course to place her in a tie for third heading into the second day at Turtle Creek on Tuesday.

Downingtow­n East senior Ava O’Sullivan, the 2020 champion, leads the field with a fiveunder 66 followed by Unionville junior Mary Grace Dunigan (69) in second and Lower Merion’s Sydney Yermish and Central Bucks East’s Elle Lundquist tied with Roberts for third.

Spring-Ford junior Nicole Yun also advanced to the second day of districts, shooting a six-over 77 to earn one of the final two spots. The top nine girls 3A golfers advance to the PIAA championsh­ips. Perkiomen Valley sophomore Abigail McCorkell (79) and Spring-Ford sophomore Alie Adams (80) were among the final cuts Monday.

On the boys’ class 3A side, Owen J. Roberts senior Jarred Berrish led the PAC contingent with a three-over 75 at Turtle Creek to tie for 18th. SpringFord junior Luke Fazio and senior Robbie McNelly finished a stroke behind (76) to end the first day of competitio­n tied for 26th. The top 18 District 1-3A boys golfers qualify for the PIAA championsh­ips. Downingtow­n West sophomore Nick Gross, the 2020 champ, leads the field with a two-under 70.

Spring-Ford senior Noah Kim (77), Pope John Paul II senior Paul Brady (78), Spring-Ford junior Jaden Minter (78), Perkiomen Valley sophomore Andrew Cowgil (78) and Boyertown senior Peyton Moyer (78) were among those who just missed the cut for the second day of District 1-3A boys competitio­n.
