Louis John Malfaro (Lou) was born on June 17, 1937 in Philadelph­ia, PA to Amadeo Malfaro and Mary Louise Bramante. He was raised in Sicklervil­le, New Jersey. He attended Villanova University where he earned a degree in Electrical Engineerin­g. He had a successful career as an electrical engineer and worked as a Systems Analyst in the Missile and Space Division at General Electric Co. on the Manned Orbiting Laboratory Program, an early prototype of a crewed space station. His interest in arts and crafts led to his starting a stained glass business. Something Special produced sun-catchers and architectu­ral stained glass windows and operated as a successful company for over 40 years.

Lou married Adela Rodgers St. Johns of Ridgewood, New Jersey (Immaculata College) on June 11, 1960. He is survived by Adela (Sunny), his wife of 61 years, and their six children, Louis Joseph (Lisa Maxwell), Paul (May Wang), William John, Mary Theresa (John

Cutillo), Claire Ann (Arnaldo La Luz), and Michael Paul; 18 grandchild­ren and 24 great-grandchild­ren. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Rosario Malfara. He is survived by his sister Mary Lou Allwein of Ambler, PA.

Lou moved his family to Upper Pottsgrove in 1974 to a 1860’s farmhouse, which he remodeled and modernized himself, adding electrical, heating and plumbing systems and doubling the size of the original structure.

Lou enjoyed spending time with his extended family, and was a loving and supportive father, grandfathe­r and great-grandfathe­r. He played an active role in the lives of many members of his extended family, as a mentor, friend, chauffeur and advocate. He enjoyed playing golf and traveled in the US and Europe with his wife Sunny. He was a member of the Pottstown Optimists and served for many years as an usher at St. Aloysius Catholic Church where his funeral mass will be celebrated.

Friends and family may visit in the Gathering Center of St. Aloysius Roman Catholic Church, 223 Beech Street, Pottstown, PA 19464 on Monday, October 11, from 9:30 to 10:45 am. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 11:00 am followed by an interment at the St. Aloysius Cemetery, 800 Buchert Road, Pottstown, PA, 19464.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Lou’s honor to the St. Judes Children’s Hospital.
