Russell E. Bush, aged 99, of New Hanover, passed away at his home in his sleep early Sunday morning November 28, 2021.

He was born September 27, 1922 in Spring City to Myrtle Z. (Frock) and J. Edwin Bush. He was married for 63 years to Evelyn L. (Taglieber) Bush who predecease­d him in 2011. He is survived by his son E. Russell Bush Jr. of New York City.

By the time he was seven years old his parents had died, so he was raised by Linwood and Bessie (Bush) Reiff on their nearby farm. He started his education by walking to a one room schoolhous­e.

After graduating from Spring City High School, he was inducted into the U.S. Army and served as a Staff Sergeant during World War II.

He was stationed in the Rhineland and landed on Normandy Beach in Northern France where he was wounded in battle. He was awarded the Purple Heart, American Campaign Medal, European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, and World War II Victory Medal.

He was employed for many years at Stanley G. Flagg, Stowe, and also worked part-time for Frank Barndt, New Hanover and Ray’s Mower Shop, Gilbertsvi­lle. He loved nature, enjoyed gardening and growing his own vegetables.

Burial will be private and will include the remains of his beloved wife.

Donations may be made in their memory to Bethel United Methodist Church, 952 Bethel Church Road, Spring City, PA 19475.

Arrangemen­ts are by the Schumacher & Benner Funeral Home & Crematory, at 359 King St. in Pottstown, PA.
