Delco Daily Times rewards lucky reader with $2,500 cash prize
RIDLEY TOWNSHIP » Diane Fritz couldn’t believe her ears when she picked up the phone Monday afternoon. MediaNews Group Circulation Manager Bill Murray informed the Ridley Township resident that she was the big winner of the Delaware County Daily Times’ recent ThanksGiveaway Contest, scoring $2,500 in holiday cash.
“When I got the call from Bill on Monday, I was totally surprised because I honestly had forgotten that I entered,” Fritz shared, beaming with happiness. “He had to tell me several times that I won, because I just couldn’t believe it!”
The ThankGiveaway contest ran from Nov. 8 to Dec. 9. Readers could enter online or with mail-in forms found in each day’s newspaper. Fritz said she used the forms and entered six times in total.
“We’ve been running this contest for several years,” Murray stated. “We received tens of thousands of entries. It’s always a popular contest!”
Fritz said that she has been reading the Delaware County Daily and Sunday Times for over 40 years, ever since she moved from New Jersey to Delaware County. The lucky winner recently retired from her position as an administrative assistant for the Biology Department at Swarthmore College, a job that she held for 17 years.
Fritz hopes to bank most of her winnings to use for future travel. More specifically, she wants to go on a cruise with a friend to Alaska in August. She also plans to share some of the money with her son Bill and give her sister, Donna
McKenna of Norwood, a few bucks to help with Christmas dinner. She said her sister always cooks huge holiday dinners so she’s glad to be able to give her some money toward the groceries.
The exhuberant winner said, besides winning the Lottery Daily Number once for about $300, that she doesn’t recall ever winning anything before, yet alone a whopping $2500.
“It’s nice to win extra money anytime, but to win around the holidays is fantastic! I am just so excited,” Fritz shared.
