Detectives investigate fatal shooting of local man
Nahmer Baird, 22, shot multiple times as he drove on West Street
NORRISTOWN » Authorities are seeking information from the public as they investigate the fatal shooting of a man as he traveled in his vehicle in Pottstown.
Montgomery County District Attorney Kevin R. Steele and Pottstown Police Chief Michael Markovich on Tuesday announced a joint investigation into a May 29 incident during which 22-year-old Nahmer Baird, who listed addresses in Pottstown and Norristown, was shot while traveling in his vehicle along West Street.

The investigation began about 8:08 p.m. on May 29 when Pottstown police responded to a reported shooting in the 400 block of West Street and arrived in the vicinity to find Baird unresponsive in the driver’s seat of a white Nissan Sentra, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Baird had ties to Pottstown and also listed an address along East Basin Street in Norristown, according to court records.
Baird was transported by ambulance to Pottstown Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 8:44 p.m., according to county and Pottstown detectives.
An autopsy performed by Dr. Kahlil Wardak, a forensic pathologist with the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office, determined Baird died from a gunshot wound to the torso. The manner of death was ruled homicide.
Authorities said the investigation deter
mined that Baird had been
shot at Locust Alley and West Street, where detectives recovered numerous fired cartridge casings.
Based on ballistic evidence located at the scene and surveillance video, the investigation found that there was an exchange of gunfire between occupants of the white Nissan Sentra operated by Baird and a black Chrysler 300, according to authorities.
After the shooting, Baird’s vehicle traveled eastbound on West Street for approximately two blocks before crashing head-on into a Dodge pickup truck, injuring the adult male driver. The driver of the pickup truck was transported to Reading Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, according to authorities.
