Montgomery County District Attorney Kevin R. The investigation began about 8:08 p.m. on May 29 when Pottstown police responded to a reported shooting in the 400 block of West Street and arrived in the vicinity to find Baird unresponsive in the driver’s seat of a white Nissan Sentra, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Baird had ties to Pottstown and also listed an address along East Basin Street in Norristown, according to court records.

Baird was transported by ambulance to Pottstown Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 8:44 p.m., according to county and Pottstown detectives.

An autopsy performed by Dr. Kahlil Wardak, a forensic pathologist with the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office, determined Baird died from a gunshot wound to the torso. The manner of death was ruled homicide.

Authorities said the investigation deter

mined that Baird had been

shot at Locust Alley and West Street, where detectives recovered numerous fired cartridge casings.

Based on ballistic evidence located at the scene and surveillance video, the investigation found that there was an exchange of gunfire between occupants of the white Nissan Sentra operated by Baird and a black Chrysler 300, according to authorities.

After the shooting, Baird’s vehicle traveled eastbound on West Street for approximately two blocks before crashing head-on into a Dodge pickup truck, injuring the adult male driver. The driver of the pickup truck was transported to Reading Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, according to authorities.
