Ginger Kunkel is new president at Tompkins

She replaces Scott Gruber, who retired

SPRING TOWNSHIP » Ginger Kunkel has moved into her new role as president of Tompkins Community Bank’s Pennsylvan­ia market. Kunkel, who previously served as the bank’s chief operating officer, assumed the new role in late May. She succeeds Scott Gruber, who retired last month.

In her new role, Kunkel is responsibl­e for the bank’s growth, operations and administra­tion throughout its Pennsylvan­ia market as well as fostering relationsh­ips with clients of Tompkins insurance and wealth affiliates.

Kunkel joined Tompkins as COO in December 2021 in anticipati­on of becoming the bank’s market leader following Gruber’s retirement.

A 32-year veteran in financial services, she is well known throughout the banking community for her expertise in commercial, retail, operationa­l and executive management, according to a press release. Before making the move to Tompkins, she served as SEVC and chief operating officer at Riverview Financial Corporatio­n, where she was SEVP and chief operating officer and oversaw all revenue-producing lines of business including commercial, retail, trust, and wealth management.

Prior to Riverview, she worked in Berks and Lehigh counties as a senior commercial relationsh­ip manager for Susquehann­a Bank with expertise in commercial and industrial lending.

Kunkel is a graduate of the ABA’s Stonier Graduate School of Banking and University of Pennsylvan­ia’s affiliated Wharton Leadership program. She attended the PA Bankers Associatio­n Advanced Commercial Lending School and Advanced School of Banking.
