Ginger Kunkel is new president at Tompkins
She replaces Scott Gruber, who retired
SPRING TOWNSHIP » Ginger Kunkel has moved into her new role as president of Tompkins Community Bank’s Pennsylvania market. Kunkel, who previously served as the bank’s chief operating officer, assumed the new role in late May. She succeeds Scott Gruber, who retired last month.
In her new role, Kunkel is responsible for the bank’s growth, operations and administration throughout its Pennsylvania market as well as fostering relationships with clients of Tompkins insurance and wealth affiliates.
Kunkel joined Tompkins as COO in December 2021 in anticipation of becoming the bank’s market leader following Gruber’s retirement.
A 32-year veteran in financial services, she is well known throughout the banking community for her expertise in commercial, retail, operational and executive management, according to a press release. Before making the move to Tompkins, she served as SEVC and chief operating officer at Riverview Financial Corporation, where she was SEVP and chief operating officer and oversaw all revenue-producing lines of business including commercial, retail, trust, and wealth management.
Prior to Riverview, she worked in Berks and Lehigh counties as a senior commercial relationship manager for Susquehanna Bank with expertise in commercial and industrial lending.
“Ginger has a proven record of excellence as a community banker and leader,” Stephen Romaine, president and CEO of Ithaca, N.Y.based Tompkins Financial Corp., said in a statement. “With her collaborative style, focus on building relationships, and knowledge of financial services, she is the ideal person to build on our success in Pennsylvania.”
Kunkel is a graduate of the ABA’s Stonier Graduate School of Banking and University of Pennsylvania’s affiliated Wharton Leadership program. She attended the PA Bankers Association Advanced Commercial Lending School and Advanced School of Banking.
On Jan. 1, 2022, Tompkins Financial Corp. consolidated its four banks under one charter. The banking affiliate is now known as Tompkins Community Bank (formerly Tomkins VIST Bank). Visit www.tompkinsbank.com for more information.
